Three hours in ACK
Hello what would you do on a three-hour layover, landing at 3 and leaving at 6 PM ?
Is there a beach or village close by? Thanks! |
ACK as a hub? How did you manage that? Why fly there in the first place if you don't plan on staying? Look at a map, take a taxi to wherever you want to go and make sure you arrange a taxi back to ACK.
|
Yup that's how the flights came out. Interesting chance to have a quick look at the island if possible.
|
There are bike rental places that pick up and deliver to the airport (there use to be one at the airport, not sure if they are still there or not). It's not a lot of time, but it may be cool to get out on a bike for a couple of hours. There are a few beaches near the airport, but not sure about access, etc.
There is also shuttle service to town from the airport if you want to just roam around the town a bit. The bus company even has real time tracking, so you can see how far away the next bus is. |
What is your route that gives you a layover in ACK? Are you going to the Cape or Vineyard?
If you like seafood, I would take a taxi into town (about ~ $15/20) grab some oysters and a lobster roll, and then walk around the town center. |
Thanks, we will check the bikes or buses if we have time.
We are going to Hyannis, from JFK, DL and Cape. These weird routings were the most convenient/affordable/interesting when I bought. |
It was interesting to see Nantucket. We ended up renting a car and visiting the town and the whaling museum.
Then it got horrible. DL cancelled our return flight due to weather. So we had to fly back to Hyannis, it was too late to rent a car so we went back to NY on buses. Complete nightmare, never again, we should have driven not flown. |

Lesson learned about treating a pricey, summer colony island off Massachusetts as a hub? ;) Nantucket is beautiful. Hope you had a chance to walk along the beach. You rented a car on Nantucket? Why not rent bicycles and really get a feel of the island?
Lesson learned indeed. And shared. People, don't go there if you care about good service. And the place is only nice, not great. |

ACK is not a good place to get stuck though if transport goes wrong, they don't say 'Fog Happens' for no reason. |
