October 21st weekend in NE
Is that too late for fall foliage this year? Any recommendations for a good base to enjoy life and take it easy? Berkshired? Maine? VT?
Thanks FDW |
The foliage will be past peak in most of Maine. Perhaps in southern Maine will you get some color.
Third week in October is when the foliage is gorgeous in Central Park. :) |
While it's still too early to be sure, that's pretty much too late for most of New England except maybe parts of Connecticut. By that time, most areas to the North will be bare trees already.
There's a great little predictor here http://www.yankeefoliage.com/peak-foliage-forecast-map/ Though I don't believe it's based on anything other than past years experience. The Foliage Network posted this review on October 23 last year October 23, 2010 There is still a good amount of foliage to be found in southern New England, along the Mohawk and Hudson River Valleys in New York and much of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In northern New England and the mountains of New York, foliage has passed peak. Leaf drop in areas at peak is high, nearly complete where peak has passed, and moderate elsewhere. |
Litchfield County in CT has some nice inns, and is a very pretty area to drive through in the fall. It might still have good color then.
