Emerald Checkout

Does anyone use the emerald checkout option in the app where you are supposed to
scan the bar code on the car? The one time I tried it I got an error message and I haven’t tried again since. I find the checkout experience at the booth so quick and painless that it hasn’t been worth it for me, but if it makes things easier for the gate agent, I would definitely make an effort to try to use it.

It has never worked for me - I always get a message that the bar code is not recognized/cant be scanned. The one time it did scan the system said I had no reservation!

I've found even if it does work it takes the same amount of time at the booth, so no real benefit.

if emerald checkout works, do you also note damages on the app or is that still done on a piece of paper?

I thought with the checkout on your app, you just have the agent scan the QR code and show your DL? I know when I don’t use the checkout , the agent then manually links my car to the computer system that takes a while sometimes and then marks damages.

Yeah, but when I don't use it I just show my license and they scan the barcode on the windshield. Either way it takes the same amount of time.

Has never worked for me.... I was trying it just for giggles recently and the National manager walked up and said it rarely ever works.

Rented Avis for first time in a while. Wow! Choose car and checkout on app, scan QR code with nobody at exit gate and exit! So much better technology.

so I had my first rental with Avis on account of National pretty much doing away with the corporate leisure rates. I was assigned a car I their app before I arrived but it gave me the option to choose a different car. In the choose a car option they also offered a free upgrade (to a 12 passenger van) so I passed. They verify your identity with CLEAR, so I didn’t interact with a single human being. Go to the car, app gives you a QR code. Scan and Out the gate lightning fast. No agents had to help me. No errors at any time in the app. They definitely seem to be putting more resources into a better app experience.

The car on the other hand was bare bones and much dirtier than anything I ever got with National

How does verifying your driver licence work like have you registered your DL with them before at a counter?

The app took me to the CLEAR webpage and I took a photo of myself and my drivers license and did whatever they do to verify it. Never had to show it to a person let alone an avis employee. It was weird.

I never "verified" a driver's license, as far as I know. Never had to interact with a human.
