National rents EVs! (sort of)

Turns out that some Enterprise neighborhood locations actually have them for rent....

No barcode seen on the windshield, so I couldn't tell what car classification it'd fall into.

Ha, very cool find.

Interesting that they have a charger installed in the facility. That must mean they are preparing for EV rentals, at least on a small scale.

So I followed the plug, and it was connected to a standard power outlet inside the station office. I believe the Leaf can be recharged via a 120 volt household outlet.

I think Ford wants to introduce its Ford Focus Electric on a more widespread scale than the Leaf, so perhaps we will be seeing some of those in rental fleets in the near future.

Does the leaf have the option of charging off household voltage with a special cord? If so that may be how they are charging it. It is also not uncommon for commercial buildings to have 220v outlets for powering heavy equipment like pressure washers, that is another possibility.

Likely "ICAE"

ACRISS already has a designator on the last letter for fuel type, and Electric is one of them.

Did you get any indication as to how "refueling" works? Are you expected to bring an electric car back with a certain level of charge or you have to pay for the portion of hydro use to recharge it. I'd hate to find a Leaf on the Emerald Aisle only to get in and find it's got just enough charge to get out of the parkade.

I also can't wait for the inevitable "Sorry Mr. Tuneman the Leaf you reserved is not available...Ahmed tripped on the cord during his lunch break." :D

anyone rented one before?

Midsize Electric Reserved @ LAX

I was excited a few weeks ago when I saw "Midsize Electric - Nissan Leaf or similar" as a category and available this weekend on a super cheap weekend rate ($64AI for four days) out of LAX. I'm really interested in trying out the Leaf, so I made the reservation. I'm supposed to pick it up on Fri, 5/2. However I was at LAX a couple days ago and the guy I talked to out at the EA has never seen one there, and had not heard of any coming in. I'm beginning to think I may be out of luck come Fri. :(

Has anyone seen any EV's at National... Anywhere?? Any advice on what I should ask for if they don't have my reserved category available?

Got my fingers crossed for a Tesla Model X.:)

Just received this email...

Aw, crud. :(

I just wanted to get back to you regarding the electric car reservations. I asked around and found out that we will not be having electric cars in our fleet. There was some sort of glitch in our reservations system which allowed some to be booked. I apologize for the mistake, hopefully we will be able to still get you something nice for those rentals.
What I wanna know is... why would they even have a category like this in their system?! I'm hoping it means they might eventually get them in.

That stinks! Seems like an odd mistake to make though.
