Hotel Gin - Budapest

Just completed a pleasant stay here and felt I got a solid value. I’d definitely return.

Booking: €130/nt on Hyatt.com. This was the exact same price as booking direct. The Marriott was €300 and the Parisi Udvar was quoting over €3,000/nt (only suites were available). I thought the price was very fair.

Location: Excellent. The first stop on the 100E bus from the airport. Steps from the metro. Excellent location.

Room: Small, but it worked. Probably 200 square feet tops. We had two twin beds with skylights over each, but the skylights did have solid blinds to keep the lights out. Despite the location, I found the room was quiet. My only complaint was the shower had a glass door that faced right into the room. I was traveling with my Dad and he had to sit in one certain spot when I showered to give privacy. There was some type of climate control but I don’t think it was true air con. The skylights open.

Globalist recognition: Never mentioned, but there was a bottle of sparkling wine in the room. Additionally, at check in we were told to come back the next morning for a breakfast bag. I came back down and the front desk agent gabbed two bags out of a fridge (these were the only two bags, so I assume it was just for us) each of which had two chocolate croissants, an apple, a ham sandwich, and a bottle of apple juice.

Facilities: The hotel is very small and I’m not aware of any facilities other than a small lobby. There is a small elevator.

In conclusion: The location was excellent, I slept great and would gladly return. Just expect a small room and no amenities to speak of.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm booked here next summer and it looks like it will be a good choice. My stay is during the Hungarian GP so many/most of the other points properties are sold out, unavailable with points, or have laughably high rates. Do you remember which room type you booked?

Not unique to this property, I absolutely loathe showers/bathtubs open to the room. I often travel with my parents or friends so this can be a huge issue. Just why?

I booked whatever the lowest category was, which was €130/nt for my dates (much cheaper than any traditional Hyatt / Marriott options). Looking back, my confirmation says “Classic” for the room type. I’m not sure whether or not that’s what I was actually given.

Agreed. The shower situation could easily be fixed with a door that isn’t see-thru.

With that said, overall I was very happy with the hotel and found it to be good value for money.

Eh, this was my first MMS hotel, and it didn’t inspire a ton of confidence in any future experiences. I’m a fan of larger hotels, anyway. Here are my impressions and photos (booked on cash through Hyatt for the Brand Explorer badge):

Pros:
  • Shower pressure from the wand was good

Neutral:
  • Hot water didn’t get hot enough - like it wasn’t cold but you could tell it wasn’t getting HOT
  • Not upgraded from the Cozy room I booked - but I think the hotel was sold out anyway
  • For some reason, I was told that I would get a breakfast bag (the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant) - none of the inclusions were appealing to me, though
  • A lot of nonsense before arrival - “fill out your information in this random web app” and 10 EUR per hour for checking in before 3 PM - I just ignored it and arrived after 3 PM
  • Front desk service was not inspiring or all that welcoming
  • They couldn’t give me an invoice at check-out - let’s see if my stay actually posts

Cons:
  • Bed is not comfortable - overly firm mattress, pillows are too thin, covers have fine plushness but are small which doesn’t provide any benefit for a sleeping party of one
  • No gym (I think)
  • A few obvious cleanliness misses - hairs in cabinets, stain on bathroom trash can
  • Toilet flushes too strong and spurts out water onto feet even with lid closed - gross
  • Checkout is at 11 AM

I can’t imagine I would return here. The Courtyard was cheaper and I enjoyed it more.
