More airlines embracing furry travelers -

... The cost of flying your furry friend ranges from $75 to nearly $300 each leg. It's a hefty price tag, but profit-bleeding airlines are happy to offer the option.

Pets can even rack up frequent flier miles. After three flights with Midwest, the pet can earn a fourth flight free. Continental and JetBlue Airways' programs credit the pet's trip on the owner's frequent flier account.

Anyone know if these are EQMs too? Time to take my Peppy on the next MR? :p

For Continental, you have to send the pet as cargo to earn "pet miles" (no EQM's). Also, you do not earn "pet miles" for pets that travel in the cabin despite the ridiculous $150 fee each way they charge.:td:

Does it have to be a real, live pet? What if I put, say, a teddy bear in a box (with an air hole, of course) and send it at the pet rate? Maybe cheaper than buying miles?

(If an airline doesn't allow that, they're discriminating against people who don't own animal pets. Maybe I could get a goldfish, or a ladybug.)

Delta Airlines allows 1-2 hamsters in the passengar cabin. The cage counts as carry-on luggage and must meet with carry-on size limitations. Delta allows only 2 animals in the cabin at a time, so the airline must be notified at the time the tickets are purchased.

There are some conditions:

Fees: $45-$60 (independent of cabin or cargo). In cargo, the fee is per cage, and animal quantity is unlimited.
Age: Hamsters must be at least 8 wks old at the time of travel.
Health: Each hamster must have a veterinary statement of good health within 30 days of travel.

So - the hamster would earn miles?
