Ah what the Hell, be my guest. You are probably better able than I to afford Yale and the braces anyhow.

Yale? Braces? I just remembered I'm gay and I'm afraid she's the wrong gender. Nevermind.

I can understand saving up for a large reward, for example LHR-SYD in F for two or three people but when you are up to 15million miles you've got to wake up!

Let's say that a couple of frequent flyers retire at 65 with 15,000,000 miles and plan to live and travel until they are both 90. Shoot that is only somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 first class international trips a year, allowing for inflation. They should be frugal. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The kicker is, however, is that you get much more value per point by using your points for F/J instead of Y, more often than not.

your statement has a lot of truth...I treat miles/points as cash....you essentially paid from them...dont want them to deplete any quicker than they should....I use it sparingly...much like my cash!

My opinion is that if we start LETTING ourselves burn up miles that we should otherwise keep, the airlines will start to figure we do not mind higher mileage awards, thus devaluing the lower mileage ones. In other words, it is good that he held out because doing so may send them a message that the 25k award should still hold its weight.

It should.
Perhaps this is related to all those occasions in life where we say, "Oh, it's only another $5 or $10 who cares!"

Well, that is why everything is getting so expensive! Marketing is hearing you say that!

Perhaps this is also related to my new thread found under this link:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/010048.html

I think if the 25k award exists, it should be usable, expected, and sought out for.

Don't burn your miles just as you wouldn't burn your money. Sure hording miles is not such a great idea, but wasting them is bad too.

When I call CO res, I always clearly ask for a "standard <pause> elite <pause> coach <pause> award seat from X to Y on Z date." As soon as they start to breathe "EasyPass" I tell them that I will not use EasyPass.

In years as a CO elite, I have always found an option for standard availability.
