...... vs. Quantity Convenience vs. Point whore
You've got 300,000 points.
Do you A: St. Regis/Conrad/JW (cat 6-7) 5 nights B: Sheraton/Renaissance/Doubletree (cat 3) 12 Nights C: Westin/Marriott/Hilton (cat 4-5) 8 Nights I typically pick the latter. Middle tier. Middle quality, not bad period of time. I don't need to be super balla for 5 nights as opposed to just balla for 8 nights. During a week of travel (4 nights) when you travel every week do you: A. 1 Night 1 Stay it every night. B. Same hotel for the same week. 1 Stay - 4 Nights. I just think its a lot more balla to be able to be Platinum for 3 lines or at least 2 lines then to be top dawg at 1 - even if it is Platinum Premier. |
I would also pick the mid-tier choice.
As far as the 1 night/1 trip vs. the whole stay, I just stay in the same place all week. It is too convenient. Of course, I wouldn't make it to platinum either way, so... |
Is there a benefit to staying each night of the week at a different hotel? Especially if this is a weekly thing?

Hilton gives you 1000. Marriott's megabonus, if you're not plat and a lowly gold member like me, then its stay based. SPG and Hilton status can be attained through stays and not nights. |
Hmm... that is good to know. Thanks! In terms of the value of the points, I'd probably only go for the megabonus one (it's 2500 right?). For me at least the hassle of moving around exceeds the value of 500 SPG points.
Assuming the travel's for business, another consideration would be how much HR would look askew at the moving around given the economy. |

I usually choose the mid-tier as the average Westin, Marriott, etc., where I'm redeeming points is actually a resort and at the top of the chain's quality list. Marriott Wailea, Marriott Aruba, etc., are all plenty nice.
I hotel hop when there are very lucrative per-stay bonuses, and at the beginning of the year to get the SPG 25-stay PLT done for the year (already done for this year, in 27 nights). It's a bit tiring, so I'm now at normal 3-4 night Marriott stays, not trying for that extra 500/night.

Just make 5 reservations in the same hotel.
