USAir status match

Hello there,

I just wanted to let ya'll know that USAir honored my request to match my status with Continental, and gave me Chairman's Preferred status.

And this is the second time that they have done this! I really hope that they don't go bankrupt.

Still waiting to hear back from Delta. I get the feeling that I might be waiting a long time...

When was the first time that they matched your status?

IMStill4Travel Jan 31, 2004 10:14 am

Of course they matched your status..they have nothing to lose. The question is: why would you want USAir status at this point....I don't see them being around much longer. There are very ominous signs.

pgalore Feb 3, 2004 7:45 am

Reason why I would continue to fly on USAir?

1) Flying around the Southeast, my options are pretty much limited to Usair or Delta. Tell me you are not going to reccomend I chose Delta over USAir. Being from San Diego, you don't get to experience the joys of flying in and out of Atlanta as your hub as regularly as those of us in the SE do.

2) Charlotte is a much nice airport than Atlanta, and much easier to get around. Have you ever been through there? Recently? Anyway, I might as well enjoy it while I can.

Actually, I really don't think Charlotte is could ever vanish into thin air anyway. And I really doubt Delta could take over anyway because: 1) too many southerners HATE (not just loathe, but HATE!) flying on Delta 2) the FAA would not allow Delta to have a tighter hold/monopoly over the south than they already do

Besides for the fact, that I'm sure United would status match all USair preferred members, if it ever got to the point that their jets stopped running.

To answer the other question, USair status matched me in 2001 also (with my Continental gold status). Still waiting on Delta's response.

I tried this with Northwest too, and they sent me a very nicely worded letter saying that they could not do that, since they partner/codeshare with Continental, and that they were sure that I would understand. I understand that I won't be flying through Memphis anytime soon!

FYI -

I just got United to match my CO status although not on a level-for-level. I am CO Platinum and was matched to UA Premier Executive.

Good for you! I was only able to get US to comp me into Gold (I'm UA 1K), although I got upgraded to first more than 75% of my flights in Jan. Did 20k on US in Jan and became CP last week. Of course, it cost me 20k UA miles in Jan that would've been good to have for the current promotion, but I'll do 25k miles in Feb on UA and another 25k in Mar on UA, so I guess at 2x the mileage all is not lost...

hts,

hope that 20K you gave US rather than UA in January would not have been the 10K qualifier miles you could have used for the 4/5X miles promotion in Feb&March!

US also comped me Gold Preferred for my 1K.

A thought occurred to me while reading this: has anyone tried a "revolving door comp"? Meaning, asking UA next year to comp US Gold status (after getting the US comp on United status this year)?

Okay, Just reading your post and saying I just booked tickets on US air for this Oct..Do you really think they will have problems? We are booked on two award tickets and two paid.........??Help experts..

IMStill4Travel Feb 5, 2004 9:10 pm

What do you mean "will have problems"?? They already HAVE problems.

girlonthego Feb 5, 2004 9:20 pm

Okay that was a stupid question....I have just jumped over to the usair forum and read a few posts. I guess I have to keep my fingers crossed that they will work out their numerous problems...thanks anyway.
I am not as "in the know" as the rest of this forum.

That's an understatement. It's pretty clear US has cut back on cleaning (the DCA/BOS/LGA Shuttle aircraft are absolutely filthy inside -- just open a tray table and see the dried organge juice and black fingerprints) and painting (I've never seen to many planes with paint peeling around the cockpit windows). A US flight attendant told me the other day that they've even stopped playing boarding music as a cost-saving measure.

I don't fly on the shuttles, so I can't relate.

The planes I have flown on recently are not any dirtier than any other airlines.

I still say USair is MUCH better than Delta!!

Imagine the horror of having to fly in and out of Atlanta as your hub, everytime you fly. Anyone enjoy the fog-related delays in Atlanta last week? Atlanta is the LaGuardia of the South! Yucko!

Today, I will enjoy flying on the DIRECT US flight from RDU to GSP. No, the plane doesn't have a 1st class section, but I know that it will leave and arrive on-time, and my time is more valuable to me than getting a hot washcloth or an extra bag of pretzels.

Apparently there are many that use ATL as their hub. It didn't get to be that large of an airport for nothing.
As for your flight leaving on time. You HOPE that it does...there are never guarantees. I fly out of SAN...possibly the best weather spot in the US(I don't take morning flights ..so fog isn't an issue)..and even we get delayed once in a while. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
IMHO...you have a lot to learn. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Excuse me, but part of the reason ATL IS a problem, is because there are so many people flying in and out of it. I've been on flights where air traffic control wouldn't let us TAKE OFF because there were too many planes trying to land in ATL. Nothing whatsoever to do with weather. Charlotte doesn't have that, and I will enjoy it while I can. Atlanta is v. similar to Chicago in this regard.

I used to live in SAN too. Mostly pretty good weather, but I do remember taking flights from Vegas and having to turn around and go back because of fog. Lots of fun can be had listening to "Wheel of Fortune" in the Vegas airport at 1:00 AM. (America Worst).

Weather can be an issue anywhere, but Raleigh and Greenville usually have no major ones to speak of. And the prop plane only goes between similar airports, so it wouldn't be effected by weather in other cities.

Whatever. I don't travel very much, so I probably do have alot to learn.

I don't have to imagine it, I fly thru ATL twice a week. But last week and this week I was delayed (3 or 4 flights I can't remember). But to be fair to ATL, one of the delays was PIT and one was MLB, even though ATL had problems too. Every Thurday when I get home, I say never again, but the only way I can avoid ATL is to drive to MCO and fly US. So is an hour drive and an extra half hour needed in MCO over MLB the same as an hour stopping in ATL? I'd still have to stop in CLT with US air, so what have I gained?
