Question on selling miles

I heard when you sell miles to a mileage broker, they sometimes pay you in advance. They ask for user ID, password, Pin (if applicable), email, phone number, address etc.

My question is, after getting paid, what if you change your Pin and password? Is there anything they can do? Is there any catch here?

Asking for a friend.

Don't do it? They could easily turn you into the airline and you could lose all your miles.

But you have a lot of their info as well. Their company name, address everything was mentioned in the check they sent.

You also have some info about the customer they booked the ticket for, using miles you sold them earlier. Will they risk it?

The answer to any question on selling miles: DON'T DO IT!

You risk your entire account, any existing award tickets and upgrades, and status, as well as the ability to participate in the airline's FF program at all in the future.

Asking for a friend.

Wouldn't this be a plan to steal or commit fraud?

Question on selling miles

Looks like you're asking about fraud and not selling miles ?? "Is there any catch here?"

Really?

cowboyguy Jun 18, 2014 3:13 pm

Ok let me be more specific.

The friend does not want to do it without any reason. She has a clash with the mileage broker. The broker transferred Ultimate Rewards to her account from a random account without even her authorization and now her account is at the risk of getting closed. I know one can say her account was at the risk of getting closed the moment she sold her miles. But what is done is done. Now she just wants the broker to compensate her for the risk she undertook.

Really? Compensated? She has made her bed & will have to deal with it. No one on FT is going to be able to help her.

She doesn't need help. I mean she can even let this go. She was just curious how mileage brokers might possibly deal with this.

She wants compensation. That's funny. When you get involved in shady business, you can pretty much expect it to go this way.

Asking for a friend.

Is your friend or you considering to try to defraud the mileage broker, or do you just want to cut off the mileage broker's access to the account after the mileage broker is made whole and allowed to do what your friend agreed to do and has already been paid for by the mileage broker? If the latter, change whatever is deemed appropriate. If the former, don't do it if you/friend care about not running afoul of the law.

cowboyguy, you sure it's a friend and not you that you're asking for?
I remember a lot of threads from you... Last one was the "Quit MS" thread.

Isn't "asking for a friend" a standard line in all the new threads?

But seriously, this one is for a friend
