How to maximize miles on Bose purchase?
 

I plan on purchasing one of those Bose Wave CD/Radios (~$499). Any advice on how to do this maximizing miles. I thought I saw somewhere that if I go through a particular site, that I can get X miles/$. Does that ring a bell for anyone or any other suggestions?

What FF program? If it's UA, then go to Mileage Mall and order through the portal. Be sure you register first. BOSE is 4X MP miles. Use your Mileage Plus Visa.

If it is UA, go through the portal at their Mileage Plus Mall, as hiyosilverwings
suggested, but make your purchase through Sharper Image, not Bose - the price is the same, and they are giving 8 miles /$1.00.

If you use NWA, a Bose purchase is a goldmine.

I purchased at SharperImage though the NWA mall. SharperImage awards seven miles per dollar and NWA was matching the miles. So for a $500 purchase I got 7,000 miles (500 x 7 x 2).

Excellent advice. I checked ou the NWA site, and may buy there. I actually fly CO - I didn't see an equivelant CO Mall, so if there is one, please let me know.

If you use AA, and can get it through Sharper Image, you will get 5 miles per $. I bought my Bose QC2 headphones that way.

CO's Mall is called ShopOnePass.
Unfortunately, they do not have both the merchants you're looking for (Bose or Sharper Image).

If you're purchasing from NWA, keep in mind that you get 3 miles/$ for purchasing gift certificates from giftcertificates.com, and through Dec 31, you get double miles for those purchases. Giftcertificates.com sells gift certificates to Sharper Image, so perhaps you could get 6+14=20 miles/$ this way?

NW does state "Not valid with any other offers or promotions", but I'm not sure that would cover (or whether they'd notice) using gift certificates for which you received miles to make purchases for which you receive miles.

In any case, if you want to try this, be sure to register for the "Holiday Shopping Spree" at their site and make all purchases through the "Worldperks Mall."

Do the sharper image purchase, and use a Platinum Amex. They are doubling all points on purchases over $100.

Thanks for these suggestions, especially the NWA Mall link. Unfortunately, Sharper Image does not offer the Bose Lifestyle 35 system that I was hoping to purchase for as a Christmas gift for my partner. I would have netted just about 50,000 NWA miles alone on the purchase with the various bonuses. Drats.

Make certain to compare prices when using one of the shopping portals vs. going to Bose directly. When using the UAL shopping portal to Bose, the Lifestyle 50 unit that I am interested in is $500.00 less than when using the NWA shopping portal to Sharper Image for the same product. The Bose website offers a free stereo as well with the purchase of the Lifestyle 50 unit whereas the Sharper Image website does not.

I have purchased at GiftCertificates.com through the NWA Mall and the math doesn't work that way. You get 3 miles/dollar from GC and NWA doubles it. So for a $500 Bose, you'd get 500 x 3 x 2 = 3,000 miles.

That's why the best way to purchase a Bose is at Sharper Image (7 miles/dollar) when NWA is doubling miles - a total of 14 miles/dollar.
