Best Airline for upgrading to First Class
Hi everyone, just wondering in your opinion, which airline is the best for using miles and or paying for an upgrade from Economy to First class?
Thanks! |
aa,dl,ua....because i/we have mi's on them....the ug's seem to be harder to get lately....
why are you asking?...how much flying do you do?, where do you fly from?....are u in the us.... good luck... |
AA is one of the easiest/cheapest to obtain upgrades on, especially for elites.
What you get in the premium cabins differs somewhat, of course, so what you consider "best" after getting these varies by carrier, equipment, and configuration. |
If you don't have any elite status and you fly routes served by Alaska Airlines, the ability to buy upgrades (space permitting) within 24 hours of departure is a nice features (ranging from $50 for up to 1250 miles to $200 for 3,751+ miles).
|
I've got a hunch the easiest/cheapest airline to upgrade on might be FL. I've only flown AirTran a couple times, but they always seem to be hawking first class seats for maybe $50.
Now best experience? That's another story..... :-) |
I assume since OP is wanting to upgrade Y->F, then the query is only about domestic airlines. Also, since OP does not mention, am guessing no elite status either.
Altho I fly neither, I hear good things about AS and CO service in F. (Does AS still put a prayer on the meal tray? ) |

That alone is the reason I never have flown AS again. Don't push religion on me!

I believe Northwest allows you to purchase an upgrade for $150 when you check in online (if available). Might be the cheapest way for non-elites to upgrade.

That's pretty childish.
They aren't holding you down and forcing you to read it. Grow up. |
hands down - AirTran
4 credits = 1 one-way business class upgrade. By far the easiest and cheapest way to upgrade.

It really depends on what you mean in terms of type of service. Are you talking international or domestic?

That being said I would gladly accept fortune cookie proselytizing on any US airline that serves Alaskan Amber ^ instead of Heinekin and the other swill commonly sold in flight. |

Glad to see someone else was offended  I was going to write management but don't have time for such crap and it would be pointless as we know this policy was approved at the highest levels.

My last flight on Delta (Cinn. to Memphis), they upgraded me automatically (I have silver elite status) for free and were offering upgrades at the gate for anyone for $50. I have to say, though, that while there was more leg room and the perks are a little better. I don't know why they didn't take the opportunity to make the seats a lot wider. Putting the tray tables in the side arms and putting a larger center arm with metal on both sides actually seemed to make the chair more restrictive rather than more comfortable. It was a free upgrade, though, so I'm not complaining - just wondering about design thought process.

It is fairly easy to get an F upgrade on US right now even as a Silver, with the perceived (no real proof other than perception) defections of a lot of their elites. If there are seats in F, and the GA is so inclined, they often sell the seats for $50. They might not be worth it though, on a shorter flight. |

Same here. Would the people telling you to grow up be ok with a Muslim prayer.
At least not until "In God We Trust" is replaced by "In Allah We Trust" on US currency. :) |
It looks to me that this thread has devolved into a children's playground fight. Re-read the OP post.
As for religious beliefs one can refuse to read it. That's a specious argument. I'd be offended if ANY airline included messages about any religious beliefs be it Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Shinto or Buddhist. Just because In God We Trust is on our currency doesn't mean it should be on the airline's napkins. BTW, I believe God and Allah are merely different names for the same deity. |

No. Clear enough for you?
At least not until "In God We Trust" is replaced by "In Allah We Trust" on US currency. :) Anyway, OP, it sounds like you've no elite status. If you can swing an elite status level (Silver or better), NW has been phenomenal over the years for comp upgrades on flights in the 49 states. (Hawaii is excluded.) Things have been good, but the DL merger has many NW elites panicked. For flights to Hawaii, UA is much easier than NW or CO. When you get more posts under your belt, you can check out the Coupon Connection board and work on finding a trade for a CR-1 sometime (a great upgrade tool since it can apply all the way from the east coast to Hawaii, and you don't have to be an elite/premier member - the CR-1 generally needs to come from a 1K, though). |

Get over it. You don't have to read it if it bothers you.
Many of us would feel rather annoyed by being preached at or prayed for if the religion in question wasn't one we were comfortable with, I imagine. Maybe, once in a blue moon, we wouldn't mind, but every time we conducted business with the company? My 2c worth (and I rarely offer them here). |
