Whoo-woo! Discount AND miles!

So I go into a Speedway gas station. They are selling their cash cards (prepaid cards). Christmas special - $2 off $25. That's 8%. Not too shabby.

I bought one and had it loaded with $250. They took my Diner's Club card and charged it $230.

Now I get my gas at a discount and get the miles from the card. Hard to beat that!

Speedway, SuperAmerica, and Rich Oil are the participating gas stations.

Where do they operate? I don't particularly recall ever seeing them in my travels. And I just went to www.speedway.com and got tired of entering states I've been to in recent months (CA where I live, CO, TN, MD, VA) and finding "0 stores found" for every single one of them.

Their website talks about lots of stores and lots of customers but makes no mention of being only some sort of regional outlet (which they seem to be).

It looks like most of their locations are in the Midwest region (IL, IN, MN, WI, KY, etc.)

Sounds like a great deal. Too bad I won't be able to take advantage of it.

I live in New York, and I can't find any here, either. But I spend my work week in Detroit, and they are all over the place there.

In my case, I stay at a hotel (and get ponts, natch http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) and there's a Speedway within walking distance. I fill up every week for the trip home. Now it's not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but 8% discount on gas is about 12 cents/gallon at today's prices, and they let me load it up with DC for double miles (on BA) so, for me, it's an ideal FT ploy - do things you'd normally do, just make a slight tweak for the miles.

They did this last year too. I was delivering trucks, busses, and motorhomes out of Elkhart, IN and it was a great deal. Team that up with the $100 on Amex adds a 100 mile bonus in December along with the double gas miles makes 3 miles per dollar on each $100 purchase.
There are alot of Speedways down south, although here in FL alot of them are turning into Sunoco stations. Also as mentioned in IN, IL, and OH. At 8% off and $1.50 per gallon is .12 off per gallon, a good deal. I was using over $700 a week in gas last winter so it added up.
One word of warning though, they do run out of them and there are 2 kinds of cards, the gas only (blue) and the everything card (i think silver or gold) with the everything card you can get coffee, ect in the store as well.

They are prevelant here in West Michigan also. Somehow I ended up on their e-mail list and once in awhile I get a coupon offer where they give me an additional $5 or $10 off when I buy a $50 or $100 gas card. It gets very lucrative then, because they also still give me whatever discount they are running for the general public at the time I purchase.
