What I was asking about in my other post was NOT about seeing availability by fare class: I know about Galileo and hope fervently that current efforts to provide us with a tool like the old Aeroplan.de are successful. What I was asking about was viewing FARES by booking class, which Aeroplan/Galileo never did.

See, many airlines will only allow you to upgrade international fares if they are booked in certain classes. Okay, but how do I find out what that's likely to cost me on any given airline? The airline sites either tell me what's cheapest or a full Y fare. It's not like eAAsy Sabre, where I could input the booking class I wanted along with everything else. I imagine that the information is buried somewhere in Travelocity's Fare Finder, but opening a hundred or so fare rules is a little tedious.

Any ideas?

Give http://tr.travelocity.com/tr/cl/1,,T..._module%3dFARE a try? It's not perfect and tends to give you only the lower fares, but sometimes it will give you the information you need.

You can also use Expedia's Fare Calendar

Expedia will list fares by airline priced lowest to highest with the fare code indicated in the summary of each.

Also, if you use Travelocity via Yahoo, point your mouse at the link for the fare rules and look at the link address. You will see the fare code listed in the link address. No need to actually click on each rules link.

Thanks! These are exactly what I was looking for! Now I can see, for example, that the lowest upgradeable UA fare BUF-FLR is 700+, as opposed to AA's 401.00. If we're going to switch airlines so as to not have to connect through ORD, we need to know what we're into.

Aside: 'let me ask...again' refers to the fact that a moderator closed my original query thread without reading that I wanted FARE by booking class, not availability.

AAgoraku, can you post the link to use Travelocity via Yahoo? I usually go directly to Travelocity. I'd like to use the mouse trick.

in the past, people used to complain when i was sarcastic saying "i couldn't tell that from the Topic title...."

so, now i just do the rolleyes but somehow people still manage to b*tch. whatever....i am going to hold my ground. the field is "Topic Title," not "Useless Gibberish."

Think you might save some time by not commenting at all?

that's funny. i wasn't elected "Subject Czar (or Tsar, for that matter)." Not sure where you got that impression.

someone elected Subject Tsar should comment on incorrect or inappropriate subject titles.

it just takes someone with working eyeballs, however, to see Useless Gibberish. since i have working eyeballs, i can see that the Topic title: "let me ask the question again..." is probably (more than) a bit inadequate.
