Which FF miles to redeem for tkts to HKG and SYD?
Need two award tkts (business class) that allow stopover HKG then to SYD this December. I have miles in AA, Qantas and Delta accounts. Advice/tips on which airline should I use?
Thanks! belle |
There's been discussion on the AA forum that you can no longer do the free stopover in HKG on the way to Australia on a single award ticket (you'd have to buy two separate tickets). On Australia itineraries, you have to do Qantas as the most direct route now.

The AA and QF miles could be used for a oneWorld RTW award (depends on how many miles you want to fly, in increments of 5,000 miles). You'd have to travel on 2 airlines other than the airline you are drawing your miles on.
Could fly ATL-YVR/LAX/SFO/JFK on AA, YVR/LAX/SFO/JFK-HKG on CX, HKG-SYD on CX or QF, QF SYD-LAX or HNL, LAX/HNL-ATL on AA would work. Or you could fly ATL-LHR/HEL/CDG on AA, AY or BA, LHR/HEL/CDG-HKG on AY, BA or CX, and follow the QF/CX/AA to come home. Might be cheaper than 2 seperate awards. Both itineraries above would cost the 20-25k miles award. For AA, it's the OW150C in BC, or OW230F in FC. I am not sure if mileage is calculated between stopovers (e.g., if no stops more than 23:59 along the way, whether ATL-DFW-JFK-(YVR)-HKG would be calculated by sector or simply ATL-HKG.
