AA miles to Delta/CO?
Hi All,
I have around 15k miles in my AA account which are getting wasted. Is there a way where can transfer them to my Delta/CO Account using a thrid party? Please advice. Thanks Sahil Kamdar |
I have fewer than 10,000 miles in my American Airlines AAdvantage account.
I would think that using a third party to transfer your American AAdvantage miles to either Delta SkyMiles or Continental OnePass miles would significantly reduce the value of your miles and therefore not be worth it. If you earned your AAdvantage miles years ago (before American Airlines initiated the rule that they expire after a certain period of time), I would hold onto them. If they are in danger of expiring, do what I do with my AAdvantage account: refresh them every year or so by a number of different methods that will extend the expiration date. The method I use is to Double Dip® whenever I check into a Hilton HHonors property. I get credited either 100 or 500 AAdvantage miles and the expiration date of my account gets extended automatically. You do not have to fly on American Airlines to take advantage of this method; and best of all, it is perfectly legal. Of course, if you are not a member of Hilton HHonors, you may enroll free of charge. You might also be able to use this method when renting a car. You can earn AAdvantage miles simply by dining out at a participating iDine restaurant. There are various other methods of keeping your AAdvantage miles from expiration and slowly building them up to the level where you can redeem them for a free flight. Not only is that what I would do if I were you, but that is what I am doing for myself. [This message has been edited by Canarsie (edited 10-13-2003).] |
Get the AA World Mastercard fee free for 6months. They are offering 10K bonus miles with your first purchase. After you receive the 10K bonus miles, you will have 25K miles, enough for a free domestic RT ticket. You can cancel the card when you get the 10K miles and < 6 months and not pay anything for the 10K bonus miles. I believe the offer is good until the end of the year(?) and it was on the AA.com website.

If you really want Delta miles and don't want to do any of the above great suggestions to build your AA balance, you could transfer them to Delta through your Diners Club account. If you don't have a Diner card - you could do the transfer through someone else's Diner's account. I could help you if you decide to do this.
However, you would loose 50% of the value - 15K AA miles-->7.5K DL miles. Not a good deal in my opinion. Better to get another 10K AA miles and use them for an award. |
