I'll go along with that - "no deposit no return" is the standard line but a few extra miles are fair game under my way of thinking and no guilt trip either.

On UA about 3 years ago, my DEN-SFO segment was canceled. Fortunately, there was another flight to the Bay Area two gates down, and I got on that flight as a standby.
When the flight didn't post on my mileage statement, I called UA and asked them to credit it. They refused, saying that I wasn't on any of their flights that day. Obviously, the process of my catching that other flight at the last minute didn't work as planned. So UA gave me two choices: I could either jump through a bunch of hoops (faxing stuff, etc.) to get the miles, or I could have a travel voucher for the value of the canceled segment issued with no further inconvenience to me. Since it was an expensive ticket, it was an easy choice. I didn't complain, but I sure thought it was odd considering I was just asking for a couple thousand FF miles. |
... mechanical problems we had to disembark, and I arranged for some alternate transportation...
After you tell the gate agent you need to take alternate transportation to get to your destination on time, and no mutually agreeable alternate flight can be found, the airline is supposed to refund the pro-rated amount of the itinerary fare you paid corresponding to that portion of your itinerary, leaving future portions intact at your option! ...miles appeared in your account for a flight you took that you did not expect to earn miles... Keep quiet. Also, it is common in the case of bumping or cancellation rescheduling for restricted tickets to be rebooked as unrestricted. There is a so-so chance you will be caught if you tried to get a refund (limited to the pro-rated fare shown at the lower left corner of the ticket coupon) but you will very likely be able to make changes without paying change fees. And you will very likely be able to select economy plus or exit row seats. Travel tips: http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/travel.htm [This message has been edited by AllanJ (edited 10-08-2003).] |
