DL - Double miles with Savings Bonds?

I was reading todays Washington Post Business Class column. The author mentioned getting double miles using AMEX-DL Skymiles card if you bought savings bonds. But I could not find any info on DL site about this double miles deal. Also, always double miles has no mention of it either... any thoughts?

There was a double-miles-on-everything Delta Amex promotion earlier this year, but it's over and everyone is waiting for the double miles to post...expected in early to mid-October.

You can get single miles now by purchasing at www.savingsbonds.gov (not dot com).

Beginning the end of this year it will become impossible to purchase bonds with a credit card, so if you want miles you have to do it in the next few months.

Clarification please: Can I charge both EE and I bonds to my credit cards -- with a limit of $30k for the EE and $30k for the I bonds? My gut reaction is that I'm limited to $30k of charges altogether. Can you clarify?

Yes, you are allowed to spend 60k a year on Savings Bonds. 30k for IBonds, 30k(60k face value) on EBonds

I am not sure if the previous post deals with limits on savings bond purchases imposed by American Express OR by the Treasury. I don't know about AMEX, but as for the Treasury, you can easily evade the yearly purchase limits (15K E and 30K I, IIRC) by putting your mother's, father's, kid's, or wife's name as the first owner of the bond and yourself as the second owner.

The month of October promises to be GLORIOUS!

There are several threads in either AMEX or DL's forums discussing just about everything possible regarding the soon-to-end ability to purchase bonds using credit cards. I'm surprised UPGRADME hasn't provided the links http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yeah, that "Mark Fisher" guy in the article sounds like a pretty bright guy. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
