Wall Street Journal Interview
Recently I was interviewed by someone from the WSJ. She is writing an article regarding online booking, its pros and cons. She contacted me because of a posting she saw here on F-T! Anyway, she was not able to release when this article will come out, apparently this has something to do with policies and procedures. She did tell me that it would release within 30 days and would most likely be under the "business fare" section.
If any of you read the WSJ, would you mind checking to see if this article is in there and letting me know? Thanks so much. Beth |
Ricechex: I think I read the article you mentioned. It is titled "Using Airline Web Sites Isn't Always The Best Way to Find Deals on Fares" by Asra Q. Nomani, published in 3/5/99 Friday's Weekend Journal section.
Unfortunately, I cannot provide a link to the article. Let me know if you want me to e-mail you a text copy of the article. |
This is a different article, by Jane Costello. It is to be about problems with online booking, and encompasses more than just "lowest fare" issues.
I also spoke to her, and asked her to send me an e-mail on the day of publication. She felt that would be OK. Ken |

Would you let me know when she sends you the email? I would really appreciate it! She was the one that interviewed me as well. Beth |
I will if I remember, but I'm notoriously disorganized. You might want to call or e-mail her and ask her to e-mail you directly. She sounded happy to do so.

Hi Ken:
Welcome to the boards. Enjoyed seeing your contribution at rec.travel.air as well. As you may have seen, there are a number of people with similar first names (e.g. David and Mark) or even handles (QL - QuantumLeap and QuietLion). Since we are both Ken's, perhaps we should sign our posts other than "Ken"? - Ken Lin |
Well, you could always change your name... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
How 'bout just signing the full name, as in: Regards, Ken Hamer [This message has been edited by KenHamer (edited 03-16-99).] |
The Wall Street Journal article is now available on the web. The address is:

This is the direct link to the article that is published today 3/25/99. Congrats. -Ken Lin |
Ken Lin--what is the reference to rec.travel.air? Where can I find that group? Thanks.

Excellent article and I see many of my own frustrations in self booking.
Glad to see Easy Sabre mentioned as well though it has a Y2K problem and will disappear at the end of the year. On the compuserve travel forum (which has lost quite a few members to this board) we are bemoaning the death of a really useful and fast tool for looking and booking, the text version that is. The web based version of Easy Sabre will not be missed. The text based version available on Compuserve and I don't know where else is great. Jim |
Djlawman - it's a newgroup - news:rec.travel.air
UBB won't allow me to give you a direct link to it, but if you copy and paste the bold text above into your browser's location line, it should bring up the newsgroup for you. [This message has been edited by baobab (edited 03-25-99).] |
