Party in Paradise Alert

A friendly reminder:

Most airline reservation systems will accept reservations through November 7, 1999 starting TOMORROW, Friday, Dec 11...

Now will they load ff seat capacity? We'll see...

philforest Dec 10, 1998 9:10 am

I doubt it!

PremEx Dec 10, 1998 10:47 am

OneFreeMan...thanks! I was just going to post this tomorrow after confirming my reservations...I mean I've just gotta get my upgrade before all of you suck 'em up. Last one to the phones gets a cauliflower ear!

Catman Dec 10, 1998 12:09 pm

Thanks for the heads up OneFreeman. I just may get on thep hone from my job (since I'm on the job at 3a on friday's) so I can make
sure I get my upgraded seat before PremEx does! CATMAN

Rudi Dec 10, 1998 12:38 pm

Ha ha ha - i am 6 (east coast) to 9 (west coast) to 11 (Hawaii) hours ahead of you !!!

philforest Dec 10, 1998 1:15 pm

Rudi, we hate you!

BlondeBomber Dec 10, 1998 1:33 pm

I am not sure how "We hate you" translates into German but I suspect it is not how we use it in North America in a rather casual, sometimes lighthearted manner of dismissal. Perhaps "We are very jealous of you" might be a better substitute.

Actually Rudi -- more power to you! Makes up for all those times you have felt sooooo discriminated against.

Catman Dec 10, 1998 1:57 pm

Maybe the reservations clerks should get some extra rest for a flood of callers booking tickets to Waikiki for the "Party in Paradise!" Good luck booking friday folks!

OMNI POSTING: Rudi... nobody hates anybody on FlyerTalk. We are all one big happy family. And with you as one of our official leaders it will stay that way.

And being its the holiday season I will try
not to make catty remarks to the emmett crew.
Have a MEOWY DAY! CATMAN

onefreeman Dec 10, 1998 1:59 pm

Maybe we can all give Rudi our ff #'s and our dates of travel so he can book all of us?

Interesting aside -- I know that UA's computer "time" is set to Mountain and AA's is set to Central so does Rudi actually have an advantage?

Rudi -- plz post your results on this thread!

Thanx all!

Rudi Dec 10, 1998 4:19 pm

yes please ... and add all your credit card informations ... and you might see me never again.

Rudi Dec 10, 1998 4:26 pm

hoppla - it is already 10 minutes AFTER midnight here - I'll try my on-line-booking NOW (with LH): but my detailled StarAlliance-round the world ticket will probably not been taken by the computer - and I'll have to visit LH in person (and can't do it, because of a business meeting in the morning, till about 11AM swiss time ... yes philforest, now your question mark about TIME is correct - I might lose my (MEZ) time-advantage! (Or if somebody from Asia takes part at our Hawaii party - he/she did beet me easily anyway!).

and - no problem with "I hate you" (it is about similar as my swiss-german Ha ha ha).

Rudi Dec 10, 1998 4:53 pm

My plans:

StarAlliance paid round the world with Gisela, probably booking eco, confirmable-upgrading longhaule-parts (UA, LH) with miles:

first segment: Switzerland-US/Canada-HNL on that very first Thursday nov-4 (or first segments of this on Wednesday late).

Arriving in HNL on Thursday nov-4 very late (probably UA's last flight out of SFO or LAX or ORD or AC from Canada) .

Isle hoppers with free Aloha return tickets (costing 5'000 UA miles for return).

Anyday suitable day later (latest on Saturday, nov-15) leaving HNL to Asia (showing Gisela Hong Kong, Bangkok and New Delhi for her first time) and have a final one-night stopover in Copenhague (some Carlsberg/Tuborg business friends there always appreciate our visit).

Please: for the Hawaiian Island - I follow you (I know already HNL and Maui - but don't mind revisits)

I might be lucky - if it will be like this year - UA's StarAlliance promotion (take 3 to 6 or 8/9) may run, starting nov-15!?!.

PremEx Dec 10, 1998 11:28 pm

Ah Ha! I got it! I may be the first to confirm my flight to Honolulu for the Party of the Century! I just called United and got my flight out of LAX to HNL, and upgraded using miles to First! The 2 early morning flights had no First allocated yet for award or upgrade, but the 2 afternoon flights did! Ahh...the mysteries of Yield Management. I'm on the waitlist for an earlier flight that day, but actually this is just fine. Maybe Catman can head out of Jerzee, connect up with me at LAX and we can fly over together? Planning on heading to Maui after the Party on the 9th, and then heading home on the 12th. Now I have to wait a week to book the return, but one things for sure...I'm gonna be there!

philforest Dec 11, 1998 9:37 am

BlondeBomber: As you've seen, "We hate you" didn't have to translate into any language for Rudi to understand what I meant and the feeling behind what I wrote. He speaks most Indo-European languages fluently and understands most of the nuances in most of them - including English. I think he's also picked up on personalities from these discussions and recognizes me as a frequent "nasty speaker who means well." (Just can't come up with a better description off the cuff, but Rudi knows what I mean.)

BlondeBomber Dec 11, 1998 9:45 am

That Rudi is indeed a man of many talents and a great sense of humour.

baobab Dec 11, 1998 10:12 am

'The honeyed voice behind the sword-sharp tongue'?
(As in the 'iron fist in the velvet glove', Merry's description)

I don't know if my description is quite right for you, philforest, but I'm sure that you can find an apt, picturesque expression.

Rudi Dec 13, 1998 3:59 pm

find an apt, picturesque expression

You have special feelings for someone in your life--someone a little "out there," someone unconventional, someone whose actions and
thoughts aren't confined by, er, earthly conceptions of rationality.

For someone like this, quotidian expressions of affection--"I like you," "You're cute"--aren't enough or even appropriate. Are you doomed to keep your passion forever bottled up inside? Not so long as there's a Surrealist Compliment Generator, at

Just click your browser's Refresh button to reveal term after term of nitwittian endearment. What spaceshot could resist a line like "Your eyelids reflect and refract the turgid limnations of an eel trapped in the flickering paralysis of Chaplin's cinematography"? Makes you wonder how this kind of creative genius slipped through the cracks at Hallmark.

baobab Dec 13, 1998 4:08 pm

Rudi - you win today's OMNI award!!

Catman Jan 29, 1999 12:24 pm

Slowly but surely... my party in Paradise itinerary is coming together.

My transfer of 40K Membership Rewards point into Hilton is complete (getting 1560 instead of the regular 1300 per 1000 pts, a 20 percent bonus!)

Reservations set. So I plan to stay 4 nights free and will pay for the 5th. I want to get another stay credited towrads Silver or even Gold status!!!

All the air travel from L-A westward is set, the free tix on Aloha, and the round trip to Maui.

So all's that left:

*Round trip: EWR to L-A... (I plan to take a late night flight to arrive at the nearest airport hotel and crash for the night. Maybe I can meet with some of your L-A members before I leave for Honolulu or when I get back.)
*HOtel reservations at the nearly airport hotel in LAX before and after Hawaii (I will not fly long distance if I don't have to.)
*HOtel reservations in Maui where I'm going after the party. Looking at the Westin Maui, but I hear rumors of a special offer in teh latest INside FLyer which I'll wait for Inside Flyer to reveal Feb 1. CATMAN

PremEx Jan 29, 1999 1:09 pm

Catman...why don't you stay an extra day (on the outbound or return) in LA and I'll treat you to a day at Disneyland including lunch at Club 33 (Walt's private club and the only place with a bar in D'land) in honor of your 33rd birthday! We'll have a blast! I'll give you the VIP tour! Wine, women, and song!

Catman Jan 29, 1999 2:33 pm

PremEx... Thank you for the invitation, and if you don't mind... I'd like to take you up on it.

I'll e-mail you an explaination of best time shortly.

And I can celebrate my 34th birthday (just over a month after the PARTY!)

WOW! I'm going to DisneyLand!!! NEVER been there!!! CATMAN

If you are:

1. Under 26 years
2. Going to the FlyerTalk Party in Paradise in Hawaii
3. Haven't bought a ticket yet

then you might consider bidding on the item below:

http://www.skyauction.com/os/itemhtml/ht500266.shtml?500266

4 tickets from LAX-HNL are being auctioned for travel upto Nov. 30/99 in coach class. The airline isn't specified, you may or may earn ff miles, and the fare is unlikely to be upgradeable. Still, the current bids are fairly low although I'm sure they will rise as the auction closing date comes closer. I'm bidding under the moniker "netboy" for 1 seat - so please don't overbid me !!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

auh2o Mar 22, 1999 11:17 am

I am booking tickets/hotel today. It does not seem like everyone is staying at the same hotel. Is there a central meeting place or hotel to book at?

Thnaks

onefreeman Mar 22, 1999 11:29 am

Haven't heard anything about hotels yet. I know some are staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village (HHV).

Raeban and I are staying at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Voyager Club level.

Holler if you need suggestions -- I lived in Wakiwaki for over three years... (and survived! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif )

PremEx Mar 22, 1999 12:30 pm

Onefreeman, yes everyone is welcome to choose the hotel of their preference as there is no "host" hotel as such. Most of our get togethers will be in the Waikiki area making them easy to get to from any Waikiki hotel. For those who have never been, we'll be making some suggestions with price ranges very soon. And we certainly missed you two newlyweds in Boston http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif. Sorry you couldn't make it.

kyklin Mar 22, 1999 12:46 pm

megamiles: How did the bidding turn out? I might be interested in joining PiP as well.

- Ken L.

Catman Mar 22, 1999 3:10 pm

As long as all the hotels are in walking distance of each other (for those of us who decide to get a little bit too "MERRY" at the P-I-P -- unlike myself! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif then this should work well.

I"m at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Here's what I'm thinking: Maybe we should pick a restaurant with bar who can accomodate several dozen people for the big night out. I don't know... I turn to you OneFreeman or TropicalFLyer.

The location I guess doesn't matter... the cabs will probably make good business that night.

And I do Plan to wear my trademark in excellent conditon Hawaiian Shirt (though I may buy a second one for the main event!)

kokonutz Mar 22, 1999 3:25 pm

I'm at HHV, too.

PremEx Mar 22, 1999 4:02 pm

We are working on locations, but they will not be finalized until closer to the event when we have a firm idea of all those attending. All shall be revealed (at a later date)!

Rudi Mar 23, 1999 5:45 am

our (Gisela & Rudi) details:
Thursday nov-4-99:
* hopefully meeting some of you at the RCC LAX (12:55 PM arriving with LH 450 from FRA).
* 9:53PM (our internal watch = 8:53AM!) arriving HNL with UA 935 (no first-class on earlier flights).
* Best Western Plaza, HNL Airport, $87 (IAPA-rate).

Friday, nov-5-99
* Halekulani, $310 (very early check-in)

Saturday, nov-6-99
* Halekulani, $310

Sunday, nov-7-99
* late check-out Halekulani
* Best Western Plaza, HNL Airport, $87 (IAPA-rate)

The "cheap" BW-rate helps to average the overall-rate/night to $198.50 and to take advantage of the luxurious Hanekulani most of our "non-sleeping" time.

Monday, nov-8-99
* 8:35AM UA 827 to Tokyo and on to Singapore.

I'll be in Honolulu (one night, two long days at the historic Sheraton Moana Surfrider) for some MaiTais and may be, if I feel in good shape, also some preorganizing of party-in-paradise-events, from Thursday-sep-2 (arriving with NZ 12 at 4:30AM) to Friday-sep-3-99 (leaving 11:30PM with AC 22).

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 1:50 am.
