Olympics in Athens
Want to Fly from Los Angeles to Athens non stop, first class, using Amex Points, but could use american or united points, going to stop in Madrid on the way home. Which airline, and any advise appreciated....
Is there a Non Stop to Athens from LAX? [This message has been edited by ceber (edited 07-11-2003).] |
A little early to book this (I plan on going, too), as award tickets can generally be booked only 330 days out. I don't think anyone does LAX-ATH nonstop, so you're going to have to connect somewhere. You'll have all sorts of options with AA/UA (I don't know anything about the AMEX program). AA flies to Madrid from the U.S., or you could do something with a BA connection from LHR or another AA gateway. AA also has Iberia as a partner to get you into Spain. UA doesn't fly to Spain, but a UA/LH ticket could get you there. SpanAir is also a UA partner and could get you into Spain from a UA gateway in Europe.

Another option (if they still exist by then) is taking SWISS from LAX to ZRH and onwards to ATH. I believe both flights have a codeshare # from AA if that means anything to you...
edited to add: LX also flies to MAD so you could work that in. ------------------ truly yours. airOli. [This message has been edited by airoli (edited 07-11-2003).] |

I find it very easy to fly into London, stay a day or so and then go on to my final destination.
I just booked seats from LHR to MAD for less than 80 pounds roundrip. This type of routing allows me to stopover ( in this case I'm taking my sister to Washington DC for a few days), stay a few days in London and then take the flight of my choice on to Madrid. Have done this several times and although I could use award all the way -- find this much more convenient. More options, can fly from Carlsbad instead of San Diego (free parking), etc. |
