Converting points between airlines' frequent flyer programs

I have about 25 000 points with Thai Airways I would like to convert to aeroplan points. Since they are both Star Alliance members I would think it's possible but I can't find how.

Anyone has a clue?

Thanks!

Welcome to FT, Rodenback!

It's never easy (and often impossible) to transfer miles between airline programs. Typically within an alliance you would use your TG miles to book an award on another Star Alliance flight, but there's really no provision for actual point transfer.

http://www.webflyer.com/programs/mileage_converter/ should give you everything you need to investigate point transfers, but in this case you'll see that there is no way to transfer TG miles to any other program.

Doubt you can do any transfer from Thai Airway... but why do you want to transfer if you can still get award from partners???

if u're canada-based, have thai points that are about to expire and can't find a decent way of using them for flights or upgrades, then using them for a hotel stay is an option. though the choice is rather limited and not terrific value, it does include the delta chelsea in toronto at 24k points. u'll have a year to use ur hotel award certificate from its date of issue.

I'd like to nominate this issue for a sticky/merged thread. It is almost invariably raised by newbies and gets the same responses, with small variations for the specific airlines involved in each case. One master thread could include all relevant wisdom.

The one link is all you need.

Thanks guys

I am indeed living in Canada and the Thai partner program is understandably thin here. I was planning a trip in the USA and was hoping I could use those points.

Looks like I'll have to stick to them and hope I go back in Thailand before they expire.

Thanks!
