As of now, which ff programs have miles that expire?
|
Southwest "credits" expire after 1 year, if you haven't accumulated 16 of them.
|
Technically, all of them have miles that will expire, though it's generally only when the account has no activity for a 3 full years (even redeeming miles counts as activity).

I didn't realize OnePass miles expired in 18 months. It's been over a year since I've accrued any miles with CO. How can I find my expiration date? I've searched their website with no luck. Panic is setting in!

I've tried unsuccessfully to cancel my OnePass account for several months. No activity for many years (more than 3) but they keep my account with 0 miles active! I'm just worried that it may accidentally record a flight that I wanted to earn WorldPerks miles on.

Don't worry about it at all. |

CO says that they can expire in 18 months but actually at this point they don't expire.

I emailed Continental and got the following response:
"Miles currently have no expiration date; however, Continental Airlines reserves the right to impose expiration limits or terminate the OnePass program, thus terminating your ability to claim rewards. If you do not have activity in your OnePass account for a period of 18 months, Continental may close your account in accordance with the terms of the OnePass Member's Guide. This e-mail inquiry is actually considered activity therefore, your OnePass miles will remain valid for at least another 18 months from today without any activity. OnePass Service Center" So, it looks like I am safe. :-) |
here are some tidbits:
my northwest and continental miles sat there unused for ages. Then I started using them and adding in more (activity of any kind will start the clock ticking and in most airlines, it is safe for 3 more years to that date) I never knew if CO was 18 months or otherwise, but I went on and started doing things anyway. now I have 35k in each because of all kinds of things I learned how to do in this and other forum on miles! (they are partners for many flights so we basically have one free ticket at that level on each airline, or 2 seats waiting! CO even had a promo where you can get the miles for small fee from someone else's acct. it is probably over now but they may do it again one day. So my wife's miles ended up in my acct and now she has 0. We wrote them to have her quit. Less stuff to know about makes for a more streamlined existence, we thought. Besides, if they let her quit and then one day have some new sign up bonus, well, she'll join again! maybe. But to keep miles active and from ever expiring, do this: just put something in there--use IDINE or some other activity you can find on the site. call the airline's 800# to ask more. there are tons of things you can do and it's all in the forums like this one. But for these two carriers, I have this feeling the miles in these two airlines just sit there but if you DO something like ask about it or do activity. Only them does it suddenly "update" to become like many of today's programs, which do in fact expire. for most, however, it's 3 years... so that's enough time to put stuff in or use them for something. magaiznes4 miles... go to milepoint.com and clikc on the link for that service/. use your stray miles to get free subscriptions. Miles are only worth something if you get up to level and then use them, or use for upgrades. Otherwise, they are a waste. I spend some time on my miles stuff but i have travel plans so it is ok. singapore airlines miles expire in 3 years regardless of activity. that is one bummer in the mix. Keep track of your stuff and have goals. GOOD LUCK! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Cathay Pacific, ANA and GlobalPass miles expire after three years.
GlobalPass lets you keep the if you have some activity. However, there is much distrust over this issue at the moment. |
Originally posted by Seat1A: don't panic yet. i haven't earned a onepass mile since 1997, and my miles are still there. all 13,000 of them--woo. I'm in Louisville (SDF) now and still a happy NW FFer. I take quite a few CO flights as well, but I use my NW WorldPerks # for credit on those. When I fly CO, I the NW WorldPerks miles are usually in my account in less than a week. Anyway, I'll have to check with CO and see if I still have my miles. If I don't, no biggie, as I expected that they would be gone anyhow, but if they are still in my account, perhaps I'll find a way to use them. Thanks for the info. I have about 5500 NW World Perks miles in my account. My last activity was at over 12 years ago.
