Minimum miles amount to transfer use with new ebay points scheme
Anyone heard what the minimum is when converting air miles to ebay points? 1k, 5k, 10k?? I've got orphan miles that could maybe go to some use.

Good question. I seemed to get the idea that it was an exchange process at the points.com Web site and maybe that has the answer rather than a simple exchange with eBay. Would love to see others take on this and the actual exchange. Depending on what you consider 'orphan miles' and with what program i would not be so fast to make the trade - but then that is my own miles.

Thanks for the info... There is an explanation at that site:
Trades between AAdvantage and eBay Anything Points must be a minimum of 2,000 miles and are limited to a maximum of 50,000 miles per year. 10,000 Priority Club points = 1,800 eBay points = $18 to spend with eBay. Since I'm going to Alaska soon, that's a particularly bad exchange. Priority Club requires just 10,000 for a HI Express in Anchorage (unlike HHonors and Marriott, which put Alaska hotels in very high categories). Since Alaska hotels are very expensive, I consider my 10,000 Priority Club points to be worth about $100 if spent in Alaska. So my transfer of these points to $18 in eBay points would represent an 82 percent loss of value. At least, that's how I see it with regard to my own upcoming Alaska trip. I suppose others may have a more favorable view on the exchange rate to eBay points. [This message has been edited by jmartin (edited 05-21-2003).] |
Despite the minimum 2,000 required for AAdvantage ---->>> eBay points, looks like you can transfer as little as 2 Midwest miles.
2 Midwest Miles get you 1 eBay point. |
eBay's new scheme may turn out to be useful for protecting miles that are about to expire.
Generally, any activity on your FF account will reset the clock and give you three more years. So, you can convert a minimum amount of miles to eBay points and save the rest. ------------------ Middle_Seat |
