TAROM-any ff partners? Biz class comments?

I know it's a long shot, but was wondering if anyone know if Tarom was part of any "real" ff programs. Also, if anyone has experienced their long-haul biz-class(JFK-Bucharest), would greatly appreciate any comments(not expecting much, but fare is dirt cheap). Thanks.

TAROM used to fly to BKK & SIN. Not anymore. I flew with them on an extremely aged 707 metal back in 1985 (with multiple fuel stops). I don't think any other airlines still use 707 for passenger service back then.

I was a student. Budget was the only reason for me to choice TAROM. Not again.

Several years ago one could earn AA or US miles on RO, but neither currently lists RO as a partner.

Nor does NW, though Malév Hungarian Airlines is listed, and Transylvania really is Hungarian anyway. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

No luck either with CO, DL, or UA.

What's the matter? You don't want to sign up with RO for Smart Miles? (!)

Don't you expect to fly RO again within two years?

. . . . S -class tickets (Economy): 350 miles;
. . . . Y class tickets (Economy): 300 miles;
. . . . all other Economy class tickets: 270 miles;

These credits are valid until May 31, 2004. The Miles Awards table remains unchanged.

Starting October, 1st 2002 the account validity - in case of non activity - is of 2 years from the last registered flight.

As of July, 11th 2002 you can earn miles for each night spent in one of the CONTINENTAL Hotels in Romania. For details please see CONTINENTAL Hotels.

Do you often travel by plane? Take advantage of the SMART MILES offer, the program for the passengers who frequently fly with TAROM. SMART MILES program gives you the possibility to collect and spend miles worldwide on TAROM network. Using our partner services, as miles suppliers (Sky Services, Hotel Crowne Plaza Bucharest, TAROM Tours, CONTINENTAL Hotels) you can earn more miles. These air miles are to be converted into awards.

Please see Miles vs. Awards table to check the minimum number of miles necessary to obtain an award.

To become a SMART MILES member, we kindly ask you to contact TAROM staff at any of our sales offices, at the check-in, on board of our flights. You may also contact your travel agent.

After submitting your application, you will receive a "welcome bonus" of 1000 miles. You will receive also by mail, as soon as possible, your permanent membership card and the program guide.

The miles are credited to your account, based on the flown distance (please see the attached Mileage table), the class of reservation and the fare paid.

Please note also the following:
- flights performed by other related persons, like family members, cannot be registered into an individual's Smart Miles account.
- any person - aged 18 years or over - can be enrolled as a member.
- only scheduled flights are credited (charter flights are excluded).
- if during a period of 2 years your account proves no activity, your Smart Miles account will be automatically deleted from database.
- we advise you to preserve the originals or photocopies of flight tickets and boarding passes as proof of your trips.

There is one special level, too: Smart Miles Super. It requires accumulation of 35,000 miles or 40 flights in the last year and it is valid for one year. It entitles you to special advantages such as: upgrading to Business class, 10 kg free of charge excess baggage, priority on waiting list.

As of May 1st 2002 corporation membership in Smart Miles program will be discontinued. Miles will be registered into corporation account until April 30th 2002 and may be used for free tickets until May 1st 2004. In order to validate above mentioned flights every corporation has to comply with the requirements listed in Smart Miles Guide, Chap. 4, page 10.

Beginning with May 1st 2002 TAROM flights may be registered in Smart Miles program only in individual accounts. The accounts will be opened after the filling of the individual enrollment form.

For information regarding your SMART MILES account please contact SMART MILES Service Center at:
Phone: +40-21-3360418 / 3034411 Fax: +40-21-3034412
Mail: 17, Splaiul Independentei, bl. 101, sector 5, Bucharest, Romania

We are looking forward having you as SMART MILES members! </font>

TAROM participates only in his own FFP.

thanks for the replies so far...just what I thought...no ff partners, but still curious about their biz-class product. Again, don't have high hopes for it, but if it's at least equivalent to VS Premium Economy, it's worth it for the price.

too bad the real Tarom is probably the complete antithesis of Tarom-Glam.

apx068 May 20, 2003 1:05 pm

Hi there,
I've flown LHR - OTP on Tarom a couple of times but in economy. They fly fairly modern 737's and a couple of older A310's.

In economy the facilities and service were generally better than or equal to any US domestic flight. Looking forward into the front seats, they really didn't look too bad but don't expect BA Club-class style beds!

When are you in Bucharest?

Jason
