Purchasing upgrade from award booking?

Hi all, apologies if this has been addressed before.

Is it possible to purchase an upgrade from cattle class to premium economy or business on a Qantas Intl award booking?

Thanks!! :D

Not likely

It is VERY unlikely to be offered an upgrade, but at Checkin for the right price, rules are bent.

I asked often, but when they see, it is an award ticket, it doesn´t work. The only way it works, if the flight is overbooked and you will upgraded because of your status.

In the past it was possible on some airlines to upgrade an award ticket for the full-fare difference between the two classes. I don't know if anyone still does this, and in any case it was a very expensive way to upgrade. Far more cost-effective to get a business-class award in the first place.

If J awards are available on your itinerary - they can be very scarce on QF in some seasons - I'd suggest you redeposit your miles (if the airline whose miles you used lets you do that), absorb any fee they charge for this, and get one. Buy miles (legally, from the airline or another approved source) if you don't have enough.
