-   -   UPDATE: Thai not honouring £0 tickets (https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milesbuzz/8057-update-thai-not-honouring-0-tickets.html)

My sister went to Albemarle street this morning. No go as others have found out. The ticket was never issued and they said the credit card was never charged. I guess it was all "pending" thus not a sale.

TA can claim the itin from Thai, pull it into their own system and issue a paper ticket. If anyone has a friendly TA outside of Canada they could try this with, it might work. A TA in Thailand should definitely work.</font>
So, any friendly T/A-s outside of Canada? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

bocastephen Apr 24, 2003 12:20 pm

if they claim and print the ticket, then they are asking for a big fat debit memo for every ticket they issue...at about BP6500 a pop, that is alot of money they might owe Thai...

not sure you would find any TAs who would take the risk, and I would feel quite guilty about asking one to do it, knowing the risk.

Not the case at all - I used to be a TA, you are ticketing a legal reservation, it is not the case of ticketing and overriding the fare with an illegal fare. The fare was in existence at the time of booking, and that makes it legal. Apparently this happened with USAir recently (YYZ-LAS for $24 CAD), my TA issued a number of them and said no recourse by the airline.

If you do a manual fare override, which can be done in Sabre, then you get a credit memo.

Common Law aside, I think you can hold someone to honor their advertised prices. There's got to be some sort of consumer protection law covering this. I also believe that this matter falls under the jurisdiction of the State of California, at least for California residents who made the reservation. Thai Airways International is registered with the California Secretary of State.

Now, I'm not rabid about this but I am going to push it a little, as a learning experience for me.

Edited to add that I'm going to try to find one advantage to my state's anti-business climate.

Ok, I had some knowledge of consumer protection legislation in the UK, so looked up what the actual legislation was - out of pure interest. If a trader makes a mistake on pricing in the UK, they are not obliged to offer the goods at that price. Consumers can complain to Trading Standards if they are unhappy about the manner in which it was carried out. But Trading Standards cannot force them to honour the offer either, I believe (though didn't read that far, because wasn't that interested), but the company concerned could be prosecuted if Trading Standards doesn't think it was an honest mistake.

This is my interpretation of the website, and I'm not a lawyer. I also assumed that english law would apply, since the whole thing was based out of the UK - again I could be wrong!

Edited to add: And lots of thanks to ScottC for the two e-mail alerts I received!

scottC, Canista, and anyone else who cares,

I am responsible for sending out an alert.... one other was sent out simultaneously, based on my inbox.

My characteristic "Good luck" was at the end of my message.

I don't plan to join this discussion, but I hope my confession helps bring peace to our FT community.

Sigh. This was a bit of good fun and dreaming, much like buying a lottery ticket and hoping for the jackpot (and with the same odds of winning, too).

Can't we just leave it at that?

I came home too late after dining out last night so I missed this thing while it was "hot". http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Danke anyway to all the folks letting me know of it by various means... perhaps some other time?

truly yours. airOli.

Most multinational companies that do business on the web have 'choice of law' clauses in their terms and conditions, precisely to reduce the risk of being sued in a less-advantageous jurisdiction.

What's an American(?) silk baron who disappeared in Malaysia got to do with TG, except that his empire was centered there?

At least it gave you a chance to demonstrate your general knowledge...why you have to do it in such a confrontational manner is beyond me though http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Speaking of good old Jim, there is a very nice pub on Kings Road in London named after him and decorated in a very pleasant Thai/Malay theme. Great bar food too...certainy worth a visit when in London. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Just making it brief, but still, what's the connection?
