Well......

I lost my job last Friday and have been trying to find a new one this week, no luck.

It appears that I will not be able to access the FlyerTalk web page after next Friday as I will be selling my computer next weekend to pay some bills.

It was fun while it lasted here.

Keep the computer. You will need it for the job search. You will need to tailor your resume to job opportunities. An email address is very handy. You can also surf to checkout new employers.

Additionally a computer is a great way to kill time. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Go to the library and use their computer for free.

I was laid off too almost 2 months ago and have a tub full of quarters, but don't plan on changing them for $$. Keep the comp, you'll be glad you kept it. The $$ you spend going to the library will be from the sale of your comp.

Good luck , I wish you well. However, a computer is a rapidly depriciating Item. With new ones fresh out of the box with waranty so cheap, what do you expect to realize from the sale? I suspect your used P.C. is worth a lot less than you think.

Yeah, I'd probably sell the car and definitely the TV before the computer. Library computers are quaint but too time-restricted for power users. Keep the computer and you can do like me and make about 40% your former income with no benefits and more work hours by selling on eBay while figuring out your next move. Or supplement that income $4 or $5 at a time with online surveys (or maybe hit it lucky with focus groups). There's even medical studies, though some can be more trouble than they're worth. But hey, at least you're your own boss. Less commuting, little costuming, etc. Maybe you'll hit the right combination.

Thanks for all the advice and good wishes everyone. But I can get a good $ for the PC and I need it right now to pay bills.

I don't know if anyone here could help, I have been looking and there is just not a lot out there.

You walk in and apply at places and they don't want to even give you a shot at trying what they have open. For a few of the jobs they said I was over qualified, this I find total BS. If I want to work a job that might be below what I used to do then that is what I want to do. I guess they are afraid if something better comes along then I will leave them to go to that job.

But then again, if you want to cold call or work on 100% commission selling stuff like cancer insurance, vacation packages, or stuff that not many people want or have any interest in then you can make close to minimum wage.

ARGHH!!!

Network, network, network! Those are the top three ways to find a new job fast. Tell everyone you know that you are looking for work. There's no need to feel any shame as all of us have been looking for work at some time in our lives. If you don't know too many people, do a mass emailing with resume to headhunters in your field of expertise. I get at least one or two headhunters a month contacting me. Sometimes they have something very interesting to offer. Do not allow your self esteem to wane, get dressed every morning and put 6-8 hours effort into you campaign. Ive never been without work for more than a month...just stay focused!

I have degrees and awards out the wazoo - but you know at the end of the day me being a tenacious person was the only thing that got me back in the workforce.

Set a goal.... maybe send out 20 resumes today and make 5 phone calls.....

Thats what I did, I hope your search goes much quicker than mine....
