OMNI: Gruezi from ORD (again)
Here I am at Laptop Lane with Flyertalk Uberposter Rudi!!! Say hello, Rudi:
gruezi, we wfeel pampered after having the sterwardess bribed with our famous swiss chocolates, matt has to wipe their lipstick of my cheeks and just for us two - in the middle of another chicago snow blizzard - our two flights (Matt to iad, me to duesseldorf, our two flights will be the only ones beiing on time tonight - thank you UA. Matt again: Hey, I am proud to say that I am the only flyertalker who has ever slept with Rudi...and on a plane!!! (ok, we were only napping on the SJU-ORD segment, but the statement is factual!!!) |
Welcome Back! Let's hear some stories!
|
Welcome back Rudi & Matt!
You both are EXTREMELY lucky, I heard before I left today that the snow would be pretty nasty. I managed to get out this morning long before it started. Matt, talking about the two of you sleeping together could start some rumors! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Matt, hope to meet you in Boston... ------------------ Regards, - Anna [This message has been edited by AnnaS (edited 03-08-99).] |
Glad you guys made it to ORD safe and sound and I hope you both make it home OK.
I took an earlier flight out of CLE -- a long aggrevating story of plans going out the window because of news. These double and triple postings are fun! (like the one from the NYC FlyerTalk CMTE!) HAPPY & SAFE FLYING AND MEOWS MY FRIENDS! ------------------ :) CATMAN :) |
Matt and Rudi... you guys are so lucky. I barely made it here (Milwaukee). There were several people in the airport who were routed here. They were supposed to land at ORD. The cabs here won't even take these passengers to Chicago. Oh well. Well, welcome back you two!

Now that Rudi is not looking over my shoulder, I will give you a full report (from my perspective). Rudi was just as charming, funny and helpful in person as on this board. He chided me for not taking more of his San Juan advice, gave me VOLUMES of information, advice and lectures for my upcoming Bangkok trip, and gave me tips about keeping food off clothing during in-flight dining...
You folks should see the way the FA's treat Rudi. I assume it has a lot to do with his charming european accent and demeanor, but I suppose the swiss chocolate bribes help, too. In fact, one FA was offering to make Rudi "My fourth husband." Whatever the pattern for meal service is, it must be amended to "Rudi first, then whatever the plan was before!" All in all, it made what should have been a nerve-wracking trip into a chicago snowstorm into a delite! As for my ORD-IAD connection, however, in a fit of irony the de-icing truck slid on ice on the ramp into the right wing of our 757 (with 2 passengers in first class and six in coach -- I guess everone else caught earlier flights to beat the snow), causing an interminable delay as repair crews, then paperwork crews went to take a look at the (minimal, it turned out) damage. Got home at 1:30 am instead of 11:50PM... We had a photo taken at the sju bar, rudi with planters punch and me with a cat-drink cup. With Rudi's permission, I will forward it to NJDavid for his candids section... |
I am sooooooo jealous!
|
I can't stand it . . . y'all are having too much fun!
|
I want to know what this Cat drink is? Milk?
It's always fun to travel with a friend. I'm glad both of your flights were more bearable inspite of the latest storm of the century (which I hope clears before I have to go BACK TO CLEVELAND on Friday!) ------------------ :) CATMAN :) |
some answers first:
*Matt's Cat(man) drink will show on the photo! (it is not a "Coke") *PJDavid: you have the permission to publish/post the photo Matt will send you. *Matt had an excuse for not really enjoying San Juan - he had to be (play?) the good example for his co-workers (but he told me, that no such colleagues will be around when he is in Bangkok ...). * Matt knows how to behave: he knew he had to order Beck's as his favorite drink. * Matt is very honest: beeing only PremEx, he feels like a "lyer", after having been with me at the 1K lounge asking for the special luggage-tags (thank you PremEx). * Matt is my wittness now - those "mysterious" international UA-upgrade-vouchers exist - don't they Matt? * Matt learned "the hard way" that he/you can't trust my tips - there was/is no more Amexco-lounge at SJU. some questions arise, Matt: * how much did we drink on the way from SJU to ORD? - we forgot to register the IAD promotion from the RCC after the flight: code 52, Tf 1-800-645-4502; - we forgot to argue with the O'Hare-Hilton Manager about miles&points for your stay. - do your two girls clean their teeths now properly? (this one is only for real insiders). Now the SWEEPSTAKE question out of this moment (the first one giving the correct answer, wins .... guess what?): WHAT TIP WAS IT, THAT MATT IS REFERRING TO STATING "and gave me tips about keeping food off clothing during in-flight dining...". POST THE/YOUR presumpted SOLUTION HERE ON THE BOARD! |
Sweepstakes guess: to keep food off your clothes during in-flight dining: there's a white napkin with a whole that you are to put in the top button of your shirt/top. you put it in as if you were buttoning it to your jacket.
Then your chest is draped in a big white napkin and your shirt/blouse stays clean. OK: this is a big guess! ------------------ :) CATMAN :) |
Restoration Hardware sells those napkins (i.e. those with a button hole).
|
I got it! I got it! Rubber sheets and a garden hose?
|
I think the advice is to take off your clothes -- then there is no problem getting food on them! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Well, while we cannot trust Rudi's advice about sju lounges, at one point in the conversation, I had the audacity to question a specific point about earning miles on star alliance partners. I even had the nerve to reference my UA timetable for the answer. I guess I'll never live down the humilation of having questioned the accuracy of the "star" of the star alliance http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
And one piece of advice about getting around in Eurpoe could end up saving me thousands of dollars this fall...Bottom line, I highly recommend planting yourself on a flight next to Rudi! Rudi: We drank just enough! Any more and I do believe you would have hopped over that Lufthansa counter in search of sky pass information! |
