Air Marshals flying in the back of the bus...
As reported here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2003Mar26.html |
Now that US airlines have reinforced cockpit doors, air marshalls do not have to be in front to guard it. Having them mixed in the crowd is probably better. A marshall in the back can shoot a terrorist in the back.
If there is a fear of terrorist rushing into the cockpit when the pilot uses the lavatory, they can use the intercom to call the FA's. Two of them blocking the aisle while the captain is prepared to slam the cockpit door shut right away may be enough protection.
I'm sure that if I were an air marshal, I'd love to only fly FC. But the truth is they need to be dispersed throughout the cabin to do their job effectively.
Let's hope that under the guise of financial distress, the airlines get the air marshals to give up some of their FC seats on a permanent basis.
I don't think Air Marshals earm miles, so I'll move this over to travel buzz...
