Newbie in Buffalo
I will be flying at least once a month from Buffalo to Lexington. I was using Delta but with the FF program changes I am reevaluating that decision.
Can anyone comment on general issues and program issues for the following airlines out of Buffalo- Continental, Delta, NW, United, US. Thanks- TJC |
USAirways is probably your most direct route, with the exception of Delta flying through Covington. Atleast connecting in Pittsburgh gives you a huge airport with a lot to do during a layover.
As for FF programs, I've never flown DL, so I would check out their board to see what changes they've made recently. US has been up and down over the last year. They have a lot of bonus mile opportunities, but they've been growing more and more towards targetted offerings. The codeshare with UA greatly expanded their international and western US destinations. HTH, T.C. (Edit: Most imnportantly, WELCOME TO FT!) I've only driven to Buffalo, but I'm delighted to welcome you to FlyerTalk.

I can't help you on the right coast trips, but welcome to FT TJC14.

I'm in Buffalo - i've never done the trip your stating but the United staff has always treated me well as a lowly United Premiere member.
Let me know if you have any questions. |
Welcome to FT. If you could be a little more specific in the TOPIC line it would help folks decide if they want to read the post or not.

DonŽt forget that only US have a club at BUF so if youŽll be flying frequently enough this might impact your decision.

I fly BUF-MCI every weekend, and have had good luck with both CO and NW. I'm CO Plat so tend to favor those two. Normally I'm flying NW tickets as they're considerably cheaper than CO and have routings that fit my schedule.
If you see a guy in jeans/shorts and a tie-dye t-shirt in the airport, that'd most likely be me. :-) |
I've been flying over 100k miles per year the last 5 years out of Buffalo, and I got to know the DL staff pretty well - they are great - BUT, with the skymiles changes, and the fact that DL now fly's BarbieJets to ATL, and we dropped from 727 service to MD-88, number of FC seats avail has almost disappeared. Oh, for the days with 5 727's a day to ATL, and 3 737's a day to CVG. Anyway, I moved over to NW. Many more flight options per day, and no RPU stopping some "creative" flights. DL first class seating is more comfy than NW, but it's such a short hop to DTW that it really doesn't matter.
One last word of advice: try a Jake's breakfast burrito next time you're flyin in the morning - yummy. |
TJC14,
I have no information for you but good luck in choosing a carrier. I just wanted to say that we, in Colorado, would be happy to take all the snow from you folks in upstate NY. Please send us snow!!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
First welcome to FT. I also used to live in BUF and did this route once a month (BUF-LEX) since I was dating long distance at the time. I flew US at the time since it was most convenient and had full size jets but now they only operate commuter aircraft to LEX. I did fly DL occasionally then both via CVG and ATL. Now DL only flies CRJs out of BUF http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif NW however, flies everything out of BUF (DC9, ARJ - with a great FC section, and Saab turboprops).
I've always liked the staff with all the airlines in BUF but since US has a larger presence, there's more staff. [This message has been edited by peteropny (edited 02-25-2003).] |

DL still has 3 mainline flights a day from BUF-ATL, not all CRJ's yet - but that day is coming soon I fear. |
With all the BUF FT'ers popping up here, we should organize a FT get-together over on FT Connection....
