Likewise, will UA match my NWA Platinum status? And if so, what's best route to have them do so?
Thanks

Expect a comp to 1P, not 1K.

Ditto CAB 747's reply.
Don't know of any airline who will comp 100K status... best you can get is Gold.

So any additional suggestions on how to best leverage a NWA Platinum status this year?

CO will match platinum (but not from NW)
HP will match platinum
AS will match MVP Gold (top tier, but only 35k miles)

To get the ball rolling do I just call the frequenty flyer desk of the airline I'm asking to comp?

Each airline-specific forum has dozens of threads (literally) on comp procedures.

Bear in mind that comps are once in a lifetime exceptions, i.e. if you don't re-qualify the hard way and a few years later realy need the comp,i.e. relocate to a new city..etc..you've already wasted your chance and have to start from scratch....

Why do you not want to utilize the NW platinum benefits? They have one of the best programs out there today!

Personally, I would only ask another airline to match my AA Platinum status under one condition. That being, if I decided to change loyalties and planned to do most all my future flying with the new airline. Otherwise, what's the point? And as others have said, you may be throwing away a "once in a lifetime" opportunity that you may need in the future.

United matched my AA Platinum status with a single 2-minute phone call and follow-up fax of my most recent AA statement. While I know that a status match is a once-in-a-lifetime deal, the future of UA is greatly in question, and AA's is none too firm either. If UA goes under this next year I've lost nothing in asking them to match (providing I use miles before they go under). If by chance AA goes under and UA doesn't, I'm ahead of the game. And if AA continues to devalue its program (and members), I'm happy to do my part to prop up UA.
