Concorde may be banned from US skies

Certainly would be a shame if this happened. I still haven't been on one.

Ouch, that makes me feel terribly old, as I remember when the Concorde flew into DFW (briefly) and when it was at Dulles every time the Austin-IAD Braniff non-stop (the Pickle) arrived and I used to dream about flying it. I am not impressed with age!

I wouldn't take any notice of this what so ever.

If there is one thing the EU is good at it is compromising. They will wait until Concorde is retired and then introduce the new ruling!

Merry -- That may be a while, then. I recently read an article on the Concorde's 30th birthday. It mentioned that with upcoming technical overhauls, Concorde's are expected to be in use until 2030.

The 30th was yesterday.

It may be an old plane but it's going to be around for a long time yet. Boeing have given up their supersonic project (NASA withdrew their support I think). I'm not aware of anyone else working on it. The last attempt was the Russian Konkordski in '79(?) and we all know what happened to that.

They may be old but the maintenance is top notch - the safety record is pretty spectacular, huh?

Try it - you'll love it!

One other reason for the beloved Concorde to be around for a while is the lack of corrosion that takes place with an airframe that is heated to such extremes every time it flies. These planes have AT LEAST 15 years left in them. Having not flown on one yet, I hope they are around a while.
