Just how many points do we earn?

Hi,

I am new to the site so please don't bite my head off for asking a question that has probably been asked loads of times before...

I have recently joined UA Mileage Plus scheme, but there is nowhere out there in the land that is the web that I can find a mileage points calculator, or an explanation of what I will get for my international flights that I have booked for this year and next. I have looked all over the UA website and can find nothing that directly (or indirectly for that matter) answers my query.

My husband and I are due to fly from the UK to Las Vegas (via San fran) in December, and I would like to find out how many points we would accrue, and also how many points it would take to upgrade flights that we are taking next year.

  • Do we get 1 mileage point for each mile we travel? Or do we get one mile for each £ we spend?
  • About how many points would we need to upgrade a flight from say economy to business for a UK to USA flight?
  • What are our chances of upgrading and when is the best time to do it?
  • We have also heard that we can transfer some Amex points over to UAMP - is this correct - And if so, is it worth it?

Thanks in advance for any help...;)

Welcome to FT, Kaygee.

Most of your questions can probably be answered in the FAQ sticky at the top of the United MP forum here.

I'm not a UA flyer, but you generally get one mile per mile travelled. Most airlines offer "bonus" miles if you are flying on a full-fare or premium (business or first class) ticket. Some also give less than one mile on super-discounted economy fares. The distance travelled should be on your ticket/ confirmation info.

I'm sure a Moderator will move your post to the United Forum where you can find the answers you need.

Welcome to Flyertalk Kaygee.

Cross-posting is generally frowned upon here at Flyertalk. SMF Rider has given you a detailed response to your post in the SPAM forum. So I'm going to close this here.

For future reference I would suggest you post specific airline questions directly in that airlines forum. In this case, the United Mileage Plus forum here on Flyertalk.

Regards,

Flipside
