Any FF programs that allow award redemptions on partners' CODESHARE flights?
For a number of reasons, for the past few years I was accumulating primarily DL miles. However, I am starting to like NW more and more. I do not fly enough to have status with any airline, and I am likely to redeem miles for partner flights. Although I live close to CO's hub, I do not like CO's own FF program, primarily because it is difficult to collect miles from other sources, and their co-branded credit card sucks.
Although NW has more partners outside of SkyTeam then DL, one that I would miss the most is El-Al. They have codeshare agreement with Delta, but according to the WorldPerks rep I spoke to, I can only redeem miles for partner flights on partner metal. So, I am just wondering if there are any exceptions to this. Are there any FF programs that allow award redemptions on any partners' flights, including codeshares? If not, Alaska Mileage Plan is also looking pretty good, as their miles are good on the largest SkyTeam *and* oneworld airlines (AA/BA/CX/QF/LA and CO/DL/NW/AF/KL)... |
Since BA just announced that you can get one way domestic award tickets on AA for 12,500 certainly that means that BA allows redemption on a partner. I believe that AA allows redemption on their partners.

Air France allows it on some routes jointly operated with a codeshare partner.
Examples: - CDG-NGO (all flights are codeshares operated by JL) - CDG-VIE (some flights are codeshares operated by OS) - CDG-BUD (some flights are codeshares operated by MA) You can redeem your miles from any FF program that allows awards on Air France on these flights, since AF is making the respective award seats available out of their own codeshare allotment. Which, generally speaking, is not the norm anymore. Most airlines require you to book an award on an other airline - operated flight using the carrier's code + flight number which is actually operating the flight. So if you want to max out the redemption possibilities on a broad range of airlines, Alaska certainly is a very good (but also very unique) possibility. |
