Do Banks Redeem I Bonds, or Only EE??

My bank has informed me that they do not redeem I bonds, only EE. They have advised me to send I bonds directly to the Fed for redemption.

Has anyone, specifically in Texas, redeemed I bonds at a local bank branch, and if so, which one? It may be time to open a new account.....

Although I'm not from Texas, and can't help you with finding a specific location, according to the Bureau of the Public Debt, "You can cash your I Bonds at most local financial institutions." So, a few quick phone calls to some local banks in your area might prove useful...

My local branch (of a big giant monster bank) cashes both the I and EE. It seems odd that your branch would cash one type of bond but not the other.

There was a thread going earlier this year that discussed the "cashability" of I bonds. At one point in the discussion it appeared that I bonds' cashing ability was based on whether the bank's computer system was set up to handle I bonds. I'd be interested in knowing which Austin banks will cash them since I live here also.

Go to the treasury site, send an e-mail asking you cashing ? for Austin. Should have a reply in a day or two.

No problem cashing my "I" bonds at First Union in Virginia and DC. Thought I noticed First Union in TX too. Not that I'm a fan by any means of this bank, but maybe you should consider another bank.

Which Big Monster Bank is it? Wells Fargo or Bank of America?

It depends whether branch has upgraded software to new version that supports I-bonds.
Citibank does not cash I bonds in most branches, and my small NJ-based bank does.

While there have been numerous posts in "MilesBuzz" about how to get miles for purchase of bonds, this posting is not tied into that idea. Please continue to follow it in Omni.
