Flying Virgins
Just got an offer from Virgin in the US if you fly Upper Class by April (I think) you get a $500 Amex stored value card, enough miles for an coach return trip to UK, plus if you use an Amex card another free ticket. Not valid for existing Freeway members. Sounds like a sweet deal if you can hack Virgin (personally I was not all that impressed with Upper Class, give me BA Club World anyday).
|
thank you for the info - please post individual airline offers under that specific airline - the buzz gets fatter and fatter!
|
BA Club World had a similar offer late last year - September 16 to December 15. They also offered the $500 stored-valued AmEx card, but offered double miles for your trip rather than the free ticket Virgin is offering.
|
I think BA's current free ticket offer is superior to Virgin's anyway.
Over to you Bab's.... MF [This message has been edited by Merry (edited 02-17-99).] |
At Merry's request:
Simply: * register for this promotion online, * then fly British Airways Club World full-fare round-trip transatlantic between February 1 and April 15, 1999. After your trip, you'll receive a free companion ticket for your next British Airways flight - wherever you choose to fly, including any of our 167 worldwide destinations. You can share a memorable journey with any companion you like, from your spouse, to your friend or your business associate. It's up to you. They will travel with you in the same class of service, whether you fly Concorde to London, First to Frankfurt, Club World to Cairo or World Traveller to Warsaw. (from http://www.british-airways.com/companion/, for US Exec Club members) [This message has been edited by baobab (edited 02-17-99).] |
Where are the Cat Police? Most of this should have been on the Virgin and BA threads. I know it's easier to post on The Buzz, but it takes up space, and not all of us are interested in the specifics. As I see it, The Buzz is for general discussion - not specifics.
|
Phil: Rudi has already made the point.
But once a thread has started, I think you might as well carry on, it would only clutter up somewhere else if it was to be restarted elsewhere? MF |
THis is CMDR. CATCOP: Right on PHIL!!!
My friend CATMAN thought the title meant something "R" rated, but upon reading agreed it should be under the Virgin forum. Thank you for the postings, but it would lessen the load on the BUZZ if the topics are on the right forum!!! Thank you!! CATMAN |
This was my first post to the Buzz so thanks for the welcome guys....
The reason for posting here was that the offer was for NON Virgin FF members - so posting to the Virgin group would not have done most people any good right? I did take the time to look through Buzz topics and found a similar number of airline specific topics without any flames. Also, an awfyl lot of inane discussion (now if you want to cut the fat....) as well as a lot of really useful stuff. Bottom line: I thought this was useful to go on the Buzz to reach the right audience. I find this list a great resource and wanted to share info I didn't see posted already. |
SteinerboyCA.. please do not take offense by us. Before you got on board FlyerTalk... the Buzz was a small area that has rapidly taken on a life of its own.
Just a suggestion: What you can do is do a dual posting (I'm going to get e-mail on this one! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif On the buzz say "Please see the Virgin posting for an interesting offer, particularly for non members!" Then post the information on Virgin. Most of us read the Buzz so we would see it and go to Virgin and check it out. On another point though... I don't think some of the stuff we talk about is as you call it "an awfyl lot of inane discussion." SOmetimes some of us go OMNI but stick it out here... we are a friendly and fun bunch who have interests beyond Frequent Flyer miles and sometimes they end up here. Sorry if you were offended. Let me give you a better and warmer welcome to FLyerTalk, and I'm looking forward to your future contributions. CATMAN |
We'll have to start calling Catman the Diplocat!
|
Or, The arrest-o-cat. But the Cat really is very diplocatic.
Welcome aboard SteinerboyCA! |
I do think we need to watch some of the flaming replies. There have been two inappropriate ones in two days to new members, and I still vividly remember the flame I got on my first post. Let's try to be nice to the newbies. Some of the stuff the "oldies" get away with posting would provoke a firestorm if it were from a newbie.
|
Hey, tex, why dont you shuddup!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Kidding, of course! I agree that many of us take for granted that everyone knows the complicated self-"policing" rules that have evolved here! Welcome aboard, Steinerboy. We may be mean, but that's only because after being above 30,000 feet for what amounts to over a week a year, the brain cells start to decay! Stick around and you'll end up addicted like the rest of us... |
I'm with Matt, and, Steinerboy, I apologize if I offended. I'm also relatively new, and I'm still learning the rules. One unwritten one that I've learned quickly is that, even though CATMAN is the CatPolice, Rudi rules. Something I need to start doing that I haven't done in the past is check number of posts before making any kind of adverse comment. I truly didn't realize that you were new. I should have, and, again, I apologize. I would otherwise have made my comment a lot less blunt. Does that mean sharper? I wouldn't have done that, either. I probably would have kept my keyboard shut.
|
Ahhh this is nice isn't it. A bit like a 'love-in'!
How many posts does a 'newby' have to make before we can start being, ummmmm, uncharitable with them? |
30?? - full membership...
(of course, there could be rare exceptions for those who insult BA... but Steinerboy is a BA fan, and thus worthy of our protection) |
If he is such a supporter of BA why isn't his handle SteinerboyBA!
Watch Merry and Baobab respond slavishly to my post now (my crystal ball into the future is absolutely clear). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by BlondeBomber (edited 02-18-99).] |
BB: I thought the Air Canada thread was created for your mischief - and you have way over 30 posts, so you can't touch me! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
location, location, location, BB.
|
Hindsight is perfect, BB...
too bad you can't hide the fact that your message was edited... |
Maybe I too need to be less blunt! Really! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Rudi is the unofficial ruler and best friend of all on this board (Although they should be NO Rulers... we should be treated equally!) But ease up on criticizing some of us on the inane postings. We are among friends here. And thanks for the support! CATMAN |
I too am a newbie/ex-lurker and loves to read the Buzz and CO posts. Could someone explain to me, what is the OMNI?
Also, I am currently in Boston for my son's ice hockey tourney and I have seen a few posts regarding Legal Seafood in Boston. Is it a good place for dinner? I enjoy everyone's tips and banter. |
Welcome Newself,
Bab's will no doubt tell you more about restaurants in Boston and Catman is on call for Omni explanations. As far as 'Legal Seafood' goes, I have only been to the one in the Copley Centre, but I think they are all pretty much the same, I wasn't at all impressed, in fact I was very dissapointed. But don't read too much into that, the company was not very good and I am not a great seafood lover. There is a good restaurant at the Hyatt though... MF |
As a relative newbe as well (who loves this newfound board and all on it) I wonder about this infamous OMNI.??? NEWSELF, about your name. Is that "new-self" or 'news-elf"????
|
newself - LSF is probably fine - visitors to Boston like it, and I'm sure that your son will appreciate it more than many of the more upmarket restaurants available.
As for OMNI - do a search in the Buzz, with the thread/subject title "OMNI?" - I think it was started by philforest. There's an explanation there. Michael, Bryan et al - if you are reading this: if you ever create a section for classic threads, this should be one of them! |
OMNI... if n-e-w-s-e-l-f is NEWS ELF then are you in the news business like me?
It's nice the FLyerTalk family is growing! CATMAN |
newself is the correct name...a few years back I needed to clean up my act so I adopted the name to match my hopefully new self.
Catman, I am not in the newsbiz, but I enjoy keeping up with it. And now I have found myself addicted to FF Miles! I enjoy the Buzz and please keep it going! |
Thanks for clarifying your new self, NewsElf.
We all need to make changes once in awhile. Enjoy FlyerTalk and if you haven't already tell us you story if you like on Baobab's posting "Who we all are..." CATMAN |
