Load Factors
Back when Randy first began publishing there were a few specialty newsletter types of publications around dealing with specific FF topics. Each one had something unique, i.e. convention codes, city pair routings, and hidden cities.
Also available was one that published load factors. I used to use that info to select the actual flight I would take to increase my chances for bumps when I had the time or the reverse to have a better chance of getting my upgrade. I have searched my archives (boxes in the attic http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) and can't find the mag to see if they are still in business. Does anyone know of any resource to get current load factor information? (Editted by SteveHOU to delete convention code repeate and add hidden city) [This message has been edited by SteveHOU (edited 09-12-2002).] |
I take it that you are looking for more than just the seat selection information that is available upon booking. I use that seat selection to decide when going to BKK from MSP whether I am going to upgrade or try to get the "four seats across" Pullman berth accommodation. I would love to find out that there is more information available.

Steve, i remember that one also. But like the others, i think it also went out of business. Funny you should bring up that time. In the mid- to late 80s there were probably 20-30 specialty publications like the ones you mention here and within that mix were about 9 different frequent flyer publication that came later on after i started. While I'm sad to say they all failed except for one (Best Fares which in the long term changed their publishing model since they don't publish hidden cities zones any more), I am pleased to also say that we were the only one to make it from the frequent flyer arena.
Anyway, i think the load factor information is still available from the DOT web site if you care to download all the massive data located somewhere on that site. Maybe someone else knows other sources. A good idea on the bumping..... though with the announced change fee and use it or lose it, that may make a small change over time. |
