Fall Prognosis - Double Base Miles for Flights?
 

Alright - I am a scrounging mileage hound that is disliked by those who earn their top status the "hard" way.

Has anyone heard what might be in the channels for mileage bonuses this Fall. It would seem that double base miles could easily become a welcomed tradition for Autumn.

Double miles promotions from a majority of the Big 6 wouldn't surprise me a bit this fall.

Double status miles? That's another animal entirely. My guess is that the airlines realize they've created a Frankenstein's monster of an elite population these last few boom years, and that they'd be only too happy to see that pool dwindle significantly in the coming year or two.

We're currently planning our trips to make honestly the status we got through double miles last year.... surely the airlines are bright enough to notice this. If they're not, I'll save some money....

Since loads seem to be ok, I don't think we'll see the double status miles promotions we saw last year which seemed to be designed to stimulate traffic.

The problem now is the yields. Perhaps we may see miles promotions tied to higher fare classes to stimulate revenue similar to what DL did at the beginning of the year.

Delta already has a double miles promo running this fall for select members in Atlanta... (no, there is no way to register for this promo...)

When the question came up last year I came here and said that I didn't think there was a chance of it happening, and by the end of the day it was announced, double miles.

I don't think it will happen.

UA had a promotion that was to the extent of:

"fly X miles in may and get double miles 9/15-11/15."

Just curious: that is bonus miles not base, right?

Are airlines going to raise the fare along with the double mileage promotion? I would be happy to see this promotion because I am having an Asia trip coming up this fall.
