Frequent Flyer Restaurant
Since most of my friends and family tell me that I am nuts because I am always trying to look for ways to earn miles, and there are plenty of mileage addicts out there, would you go to a restaurant, that would give you extra miles, status and other perks like all the loyalty programs out there?
Some questions: Which city would you open it? What would you call it? What would you call some of the entrees served? You get one mile per each dollar spent, and you can select any airline or hotel program. How would you structure the program? 12 visits in a year silver, 24 gold, 52 platinum, 104 diamond? Also, what incentives would you give, 25% bonus for silver, 50% gold, 100% platinum, 100% + dessert for diamond + guaranteed no waiting. And unlike iDine, you are not limited for one visit per month. What do you guys think? ------------------ ================== Another evil plot for world domination through the use of points and miles. |
Compared with iDine, one mile per dollar isn't much and wouldn't likely motivate me too much. I think the quality of the food, service, etc are much more important.
The idea of loyalty tiers is interesting, though. Lots of places, especially family run ones, will often comp a drink or dessert to the regulars. Keeping better track of this might be a solid idea. I think this might work best in an area where the food is less of a differentiator. Specifically, I'm thinking of a restaurant that caters to casual business lunch crowd. A deli, or something like that. If I can get pretty much the same sandwich anywhere, small perks could be the difference maker. |

If not 1 mile per $1, how about 10 for first visit of the month, ala iDine, and then 2 for the rest of the month?

So visits 1-6 in a year will get you 1 mile, 2-12 will get you 3 miles, 13-24 will get you 5 miles, 25-52 will get you 7 miles and 53-103 will get you 10. 104+ will get you 10 miles + dessert.
This would be tied to the membership levels What about a name? What about some names for the food items? Like a seven course meal called the platinum challenge, 5 is a gold challenge, or something fun like that? ------------------ ================== Another evil plot for world domination through the use of points and miles. |
And 250 bonus miles for finishing the 72 ounce steak in under an hour!

I think the place would have to have a flight theme, similar to what Spirit Rest. near MIA has- waitresses dressed as stewardesses, first class seats taken from Eastern and Pan Am jets, etc. Not to mention the plethora of Eastern Airlines posters around. Since it would be like a Friday's, why not Flyday's. Bad pun, better something like the Mileage Run Cafe and announce "boarding times" when patrons have their named called when their table is ready.
As for reward scheme, I think you have it figured out upon number of visits combined with $$ spent plus throw in a double or triple points bonus on certain days or when paying with Amex for example. Since we have a world of travelers, food would definitely have to be international and of course- special meals available upon request- vegan, kosher, etc. Or building on Randy's idea- House of Miles. Good blues music and bbq, good- but that already exists as House of Blues. ;( ------------------ "Fly me to the moon and let me earn alot of miles." |
If they only operated in airport concourses, I would think they would get quite a following from a select group of affluent people.
What would an upgrade be? A free supersize or free mayo? Ah, maybe actually getting my order right!!! |
If they followed the pattern of many airlines of late, they might provide seats but no food. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
