ORD car rentals
Had an interesting conversation with a bus driver at National at ORD--I formerly lived there and fly through frequently and sometimes rent cars. Anyway, I complained about what a mess the National compound is (since they don't have numbered slots, they kind of park any old way) and she agreed, saying that that was a big complaint with people renting from NAT at ORD. Except for Dollar, the experiences (on airport)at ORD are pretty similar.

Jamiel ~ I'm not sure what you mean by "similar". First off, Hertz #1 Club Gold is by far the best I've used, including ORD, with the cars waiting under the canopy.
When I've rented from Avis as a preferred renter (which can be had for free through their website), they drop you off close to your car and tell you what space your car is in (not as good as Hertz #1). |
similar--roughly the same. Enhanced service for "elite" car rentals based on each co's corporate standards. Counters in the terminals so you can do paperwork there, or do it at the rental compound. "Dropoffs" at your car depending on how each rental co's setup is (Emerald club vs 1 gold vs preferred I wasn't meaning to go into)

Last week I rented a pickup truck from Budget at ORD. It was cheaper than a limo to and from the airport...plus I was able to take advantage of the cargo bay. Home renovations! They dropped me off right at the truck and I am not even a frequent Budget renter. ORD is my home airport so I have never rented there before, but this was so easy, I may do it again. Easier than parking at the airport!

Jamiel,
I also am a former Chicago area resident and when I go to ORD, I generally use National. But I have an Emerald card so I get to pick out whatever car I want in the Emerald section. This feature and the fact that Hertz costs more is why I generally use National. |
