On a CDG-LAX a few years back, I sat across the aisle from Marcel Marceau. He had sort of an attitude problem - he didn't say a word to anyone, including the FAs. He just motioned for what he wanted like he was some sort of king or something.

Reading this thread -- and realizing I wouldn't recognize 90% of the people mentioned if they were sitting next to me -- makes me wonder how many times I've sat next to a "celebrity" and not known it.

Jesse Jackson from ORD to IAH
Gary Shandling from HI to LAX Steve Forbes w/spouse from DES to ORD Jon Voight from ORD to LAX Pat Robertson from ORD to LAX Louis Farakhan(sp?) ORD to ATL DR. Ruth SFO to ORD My favorite was Steve Forbes, great regular guy (at least seemed so). Lots of good fun conversations. Gary Shandling is very short. Dr. Ruth is even shorter. Louis Farakhan had all his bow tie's (must have been 50) in the airport even though he exited the plane to a waiting car below the plane. Voight looked very old and very tired. Pat Robertson was out there, but you have to like a person that lays their thoughts on the table, (at least I do) Jesse was,......well......Jesse [This message has been edited by Sweet Willie (edited 09-09-2001).] |

(that was when she just married Bobby Brown, who was living in Atlanta at the time) Florence (Marla Gibbs?), the maid from The Jeffersons, LAX Seth Green (son of Doktor Evil from Austin Powers?), LAX Emma Samms (Falon from Dynasty), same DL flight from LGW to ATL Eddie Van Halen, ATL-LAX Tom Jones! what a gracious and friendly man... got a picture with him, turned out it was too dark practically had to pick my jaw up from the floor after realizing that those slim good looking poised beautiful young people sitting around me were the Dance Theatre of Harlem, and that handsome gentleman standing two feet from me was Arthur Mitchell! I saw a famous band once at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver. Now, since I am not into music I have no idea who they were but... (and they looked at me like I was supposed to come jumping at them asking for autographs - "sorry, I don't know you guys.")
Does that count? |
Ann Margaret on NWA Aug 30 from MSP to Green Bay. She flew FC and was escorted into the WorldPerks club prior to boarding, then was personally escorted to her FC seat 10 minutes before boarding began. She was with a male companion and her little white dog. She kept her big hat and large dark sunglasses on the entire trip. She was in town doing The Best Little Whore House in Texas play. She kept to herself and didn't talk to anybody, even on the plane.

Just sat by Al & Tipper Gore last week from MSP-DCA on NW. Al didn't look so good - scruffy beard and significantly heavier.
|
Crampedincoach: you thought Al Gore looked much heavier? I saw him in suburban VA about three weeks ago and thought he looked great---love the beard. Really. Maybe he's put on a few lbs, but if so, it's got to be under ten-- nothing like the 30 or 50 pounds some columnists are claiming.

John Olerud - Roaming the halls in high school, and around campus at WSU
Various Seahawks including Dave Kreig, Steve Largent, Paul Stanski, Bobby Joe Edmonds, Norm Johnson .. they used to come to the movie theatre where I worked. Richard Gere filmed a movie in the building where I worked. His then wife Cindy Crawford came to visit the set. Rosie Greer also worked in the building. The only airport sighting was Owen Hart the WWF wrestler..about 3 weeks before his accident. We have a mutual friend and Owen arranged will call tickets for my brother to see a live PayPerView event. So, in return I picked him up at the airport when he was here on an overnight. He signed a photo and a action figure for my kids. He was the nicest guy! ------------------ Have a great day!! ~~Missy~~ |
Saw Glen Sather today while sitting in the MLL in YYZ waiting for a flight to LGA. Several minutes later he was joined by a Eric Lindros - guess Mr. Sather was escorting Eric down to New York to begin training camp. While the double-takes of passerby in the lounge were quite amusing, the rudeness of some people who felt the need to openly stare was not quite so funny. I boarded the flight fairly early, and took my seat up front in 4A. I assumed that Mr. Sather and Eric would be sitting together, removing the glimmer of hope of having one of them as a seatmate. However, it turns out that Eric was beside me in 4B, and Mr. Sather was back in 6D. So, I was presented with a dilemma: To chat, or not to chat? I decided to stay quiet, and respect Eric's privacy. Eric spent the duration of the flight skimming through the 5-6 magazines he had brought aboard, and didn't say a word to me. The flight ended uneventfully, and I exited to catch my cab. Now, the question: What would the rest of you have done? Note that I am a huge hockey fan, but also a firm believer in the right to privacy, even for public figures. Feeling a little torn, -Zombie- |

In my travels I have met many celebrities and appreciate the fact that they deserve their privacy. When seated next to one, I will generally make one innocouos remark. That response generally dictates what happens next. I have had a supreme diva http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif scowl/yell at me. Alternatively, I have had another person tell me enough stuff that if I sold it to People magazine I could retire! Just be yourself and see what happens! |
Zombie,
I would have offered Glen Sather to exchange seats. I'm sure they would have been very appreciative of that offer and who knows they may have seen to it that you got a couple of tickets to a future game. |
LaVar Arrington last year when he must have been returning from the NFL combine in Indy.
My travelling companion (business associate) got an autograph. |
Almost an assured siting for famous people is on the Shuttle routes between DC and NY.
I was on one flight with Marion Barry (whom later that evening I saw being ripped on by Chris Rock on his show) and Stevie Wonder... both on the same flight. On a more recent flight, Hillary Clinton was in the row next to me. Always a possibility to see someone interesting on those shuttle flights! -Eli ------------------ Washington/Miami AAdvantage Gold |
If anyone remembers Paul Horning from the first Packer Glory Days, I saw him this morning on a WN flight to Chicago.

I was good enough, smart enough, and doggone it, I was on a LGA_MSP flight with Al Franken last night. I talked to him a little while standing next to him in line to pre-board. He was a nice enough and pleasant guy.
I wanted to know if a book was forthcoming entitled "George W. Bush is a spoiled, out-of-touch, irresonsible, idiot." He informed me that in his opinion, W. was far too easy a mark, and "boring and vacant". Great, now here comes the audit. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |

Originally posted by Va.SquireFlyer: I guess not many celebs fly on US... What? On my way back from the Oregon Brewers Festival FT Gathering the last weekend of July, I sat next to Beckles on my SEA-PIT flight and then sat next to Nell Carter (singer and "star" of some show with a name I can never remember) on the 757 from PIT-DCA. We were in 1-A and C. She was on her way to sing for "W" Bush at the White House that day. She asked where I was going and I said I had been at a beer festival all weekend and was going home to sleep. I think I found that more ammusing than she did. Anyway, the other night I saw part of her "performance" on a PBS broadcast. Let's just say I don't think I'll be buying the CD. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by geo1004 (edited 09-11-2001).] |
A few weeks ago I sat next to Chris Collingsworth (Cincy Bengals WR) in FC on the way from ATL to CVG.
He was actually pretty nice and didn't have the arrogant swaggar that he does on TV. He was reading Terry Bradshaw's new book and then was preparing commentary for the upcoming NFL games that weekend. |
I saw Alicia Keys aboard AA 44 from JFK to CDG in Business on Oct 21st and I was seating next to one of her bandmembers was talked to him about the upcoming European tour which was very interesting!

Christine Baranski, AA flight CDG-JFK, March 26, 2001. In Economy class with sunglasses on. |
Well none of my sightings have been on flights but anyways here goes...
Bianca Jagger (Mick Jaggers exwife) at the Picasso Museaum in Barcelona in 1990 Morgan Freeman sat next to me at a San Juan, PR restaurant, my friendīs husband went to him asked to say hi to my friend, he came over gave her a kiss and was very friendly. This was last year while making a movie on the island. Lilly Tomlin on 5th Ave sidewalk in New York, and Armand Asante (Mombo Kings) at a cafeteria also in New York this year. |
maybe not 'celebs' so-to-speak, but I was on a commuter headed to ORD with the entire cast of Real World New Orleans...they were in town at a local university giving a talk or something...they played up being superstarts probably more than a 'real star' and I don't think anyone on the plane could have cared less...
|
Jessye Norman on a flight in first class from LGA to ORD. I told her I very much enjoyed her singing and then left her alone. When the plane landed, I stepped aside to allow her to deplane first. As she swept by me, she bestowed a sunny "Bless You!" on me. Also sat in first behind Hal Holbrook and his wife Dixie Carter. And I sat behind Tony Robinson, who was fighting with the woman he was sitting with. Finally, sat in first with Glenn Campbell. Oh yes, I also sat in first behind Eydie Gorme and her husband Steve Lawrence - I think that's his name. Oh, and in first with Jay Leno. Gee, more than I thought!

I would not do a thing to help that big baby Lindros.. it isnt worth free tix even if he gave them to you

LAX-ORD, I sat across from John Cusack in F, very tall & very cute. He was a big eater---asked the FA for a second lunch & got it.
LAX-DFW--Magic Johnson & the Mrs. I've seen many celebs in restaurants here in LA but the best was a Beatle!!! Ringo at the Ivy--my least favorite one, but a Beatle nonetheless. Oh yeah, also saw my role model---Lucille Ball at Nicky Blairs. |
Pat Boone (sans leather) on a SNA-SEA flight. Pat was very nice (and very tan) and slept the whole flight. MC Hammer on a PDX-ONT flight, he was nice also.
David Duchovny on a LAX-YVR flight. Very nice as well. Nothing juicy to pass along about any of them...... sorry. |
...and everytime I hope to sit next to Caprice or Tara Reid!
|
Last year, I was waiting for a flight in the AA terminal at LAX when Willie Brown (Mayor of San Francisco) deplaned. There was a chauffeur standing in front of me holding a sign that said "Mr. Brown," but it was clear that he had no idea who his passenger when the Mayor approached him. It was pretty funny... Mayor Brown just acted like any other road warrior meeting his airport pick-up and off they went.
|
Saw Jose Canseco on a little USAir commuter plane once. Everybody was asking for his autograph (which he quite rudely brushed off). I had to ask my seatmate who he was, not being a baseball fan.
Morgan Freeman (Driving Miss Daisy)was in F on a transatlantic I was on. |
Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi regularly, they live in town.
Geraldo Rivera, Maury Povixh and Connie Chung. Maury sat behind me at the movies, and kept kicking my chair. I had to turn and give him the "stare" ...it worked. |
