Arturo: Since you don't need a dickshunery, what the blazes does "antipenultimate" mean? I'd guess either "first" or "last", preferring "first", but then, since you coined the word, you get to tell us what it means.

philforest Nov 27, 1998 9:18 am

Prem Ex: I hope you didn't really mean "crack" party planning committee.

philforest Nov 27, 1998 9:31 am

Catman and arturo: But IS futbol in Hawaii. Is called Pro Bowl. But is in Ianero, not November. If you can afford a long stay, you might be able to handle both.

philforest Nov 27, 1998 9:38 am

All: that last post was repetitive, and it wasn't intended to be.

Catman Nov 27, 1998 2:35 pm

That is a good issue TropicalFlyer and
Philforest. In my case it's easy -- I go
alone (Holly would be too busy with T-V news
sweeps but I'm not talent in my place so I can go.)

You all have to decide what's best but maybe
I would mention this trip as soon as possible and see how the spouses/significant others
would react. WHo knows: maybe we can have
a special group for "The FlyerTalk widows and
widowers" (like the sports widows) where they can do their own thing while we have our meeting.

But we all need at least one event with EVERYONE because by marriage/relationship
they are members of the FLyerTalk community:
for letting us endulge in our little hobby.

REMEMBER: THIS POSTING IS BY A NEVER MARRIED
MAN!!! SO IT MAY NOT BE WORTH MUCH. CATMAN

baobab Nov 27, 1998 2:40 pm

Catman - I think if we were trying to convince our 'significant others' to go to the Arctic Circle in December it would be a little more difficult, but Hawaii in November isn't as hard to sell. I said 'beaches', 'warmth' and 'scantily clad members of the opposite sex' (I don't mind a little "window shopping"), then threw in 'Guy Fawkes', 'fireworks', 'bonfire' and 'beer' to top it off...

I think we'll be there.

baobab Nov 27, 1998 2:42 pm

Besides, I talk about the regulars, so my partner knows who the major players are... and is probably curious to meet them too. (Just as I would like to meet Gisela & the long-suffering Mrs Merry)

And I shared my Swiss chocolates...

arturo Nov 27, 1998 2:55 pm

filforest--en sempl terms sence penultimate mean "next to the last" you deside wat anti
adds (or subtracks from meening).

arturodome not sekon rate!

jaws43 Nov 27, 1998 3:02 pm

Believe me, I tried to share the H.Upmann!!!
But, as the Ol' Tom says "He will not be controlled by a {Master}, and politics are not allowed on this board". So, I just sipped and savored.

Catman Nov 27, 1998 3:44 pm

OMNI posting:

Because I have made so many friends here
when I talk about you to my other "inner circle" of friends everyone's getting more
confused. CAT people are very friendly people.

And now: THE SECOND STUPID FRIDAY QUESTION:
What in the world is an H.Uppemann? Is it
alcohol or a cigar? It must be special for
Jaws to post that PG13 posting about how enjoyable it is.

It's probably something I'm allergic to.
BUT JAWS43... if it brought you enjoyment you more than well deserve it. We all probably have our own H.Uppemann type of enjoyments. For me its Dr. Pepper. CATMAN

baobab Nov 27, 1998 4:04 pm

H Upmann is a brand of Cuban cigar, Catman.

Though it may speed Jaws' demise, at least he will die happy.

(i.e. it is to Jaws43 what a big box of Swiss chocolates is to Catman/baobab)

PremEx Nov 27, 1998 8:25 pm

Hey, me too! A good Cuban cigar is to me what Monica is to....well, maybe that's a bad analogy.

onefreeman Nov 28, 1998 7:38 am

I'm in real trouble. I love swiss chocolates and cuban cigars...

Back on topic -- my newly betrothed is well aware of my recent addiction with FlyerTalk. She has been secretly reading the boards and asks about the different relationships she sees. I've told her to get a handle, register and start posting herself... We'll see...

As far as Paradise goes, it's an easy one for us -- we're out west so it's not a big deal to jump on the plane for a weekend in HNL (tho we'll skip UA and SFO)...

And we're counting the days!!!!

Counsellor Dec 4, 1998 2:26 am

WAAAYYY off topic:

"antepenultimate", or 'just before next to last' wasn't invented by arturo or roberto (or PF or MF, whom I believe to be their alter egos). I first ran into it in a beautifully written (by Noel Coward?) ditty entitled, "Madeira, M'dear", a wonderful Edwardian ballad about an elderly gent's attempt to seduce a "young, pure, new, nice" girl of 17 by plying her with red wine. One line:

"And then she remembered
what her mother had said,
with her antepenultimate breath:
'My child, should you gaze
on the wine when tis red,
Be prepared for a fate
worse than death!'"

They just don't write 'em like that anymore!

Travelcrazy Dec 4, 1998 10:29 am

Ummmmm OMNI alert -- Upmanns. I had the good fortune of enjoying both an Upmann and a Montecristo (both Cuban) over the Thanksgiving weekend (thanks to my brother, or should I say his roommate). The roommate is a pilot .... go figure how the "illegals" are acquired. My wife asked me what is so special about such goodies ... my answer was that after smoking a GOOD cigar, there is a almost creamy ad delightful taste in my mouth, as opposed to a bad cigar which makes my mouth dry and horrible tasting.

Ok, hotel is set. I was a little perturbed to learn that Hilton has designated the Hawaiian Villiage as at their new "premier" level for awards, costing an extra 15,000 points for 3 free nights. Good thing I still have a 10,000 point discount to use! I guess its still better than the $249/night bounceback rate they were quoting...

Now to see if I can find a deal on an airfare that I can upgrade. The lowest I've found so far is $972. But I ain't done tryin'!

Will arrive 11/4 and depart very late on 11/7!!!! SEE YOU THERE!!!!!

PremEx Feb 8, 1999 11:48 am

Matt, here's something to hope for. November is traditionally a very slow occupancy month in Waikiki and last year the Hilton Hawaiian Village was a Point Strecher property during that month. They've only announced their Point Strecher dates thru June, but you might want to check into Hilton's web site occasionally to see if they add it sometime during the year. Good luck and look forward to seeing you there!
