ff miles for Orbitz tix?

did a search; didn't find an answer to this question. Thanks in advance!

What leads you to believe you would not get ff miles?

Bucko May 25, 2002 1:38 pm

Mud,

I've never had a problem getting my miles posted when buying through Orbitz. If I remember correctly, you can store your FF numbers in your Orbitz profile.

I've gotten them every time so far. I've also been able to upgrade these flights on AA.

Nothing at all, actually . . . it's just that I was asked this question by a buddy of mine (not a FTer). I figured the answer was "yes, no problem", but I figured I better bring it to the experts. Thanks, all!

Not a problem at all, just double check either online beforehand if your airline allows you to check or your boarding pass to make sure the number made it with the reservation, but you will get miles unless the ticket type prohibits miles.

There are exceptions:
I was flying from JFK to FRA on SQ and FRA to JFK on LH (tickets from Orbitz). Only the Lufthansa flight gave me miles!
It makes you think...

Howdy,

Getting FF mileage for a ticket as I understand it is as follows:

1 - Full fare, Y or F - full milage credit.
2 - Non-Rev ticket - any class, you get no milage credit.

3 - Discount, consolidator tickets and the rest - you can get full credit, partial credit or no credit, depending upon the specific ticket and restrictions you purchase it under.

(Note: If someone could break down for us exactly what ticket types had reduced milage or no milage other than non-rev tickets, I for one would love to read it).

Keep the faith,

Pakse

p.s. So the answer with Orbitz is, I believe - sometimes.

Mudgal, does your buddy live in Alaska? Someone just asked me this and he's from Montana!

Nope. He lives here in MT.

I have just learned (and I'm steamed about it) that some Orbitz "Web Saver" deals are viewed by some airlines as "consolidator" fares and thus do not earn miles.

I bought an Orbitz AA RT SEA-STL-TPA for my wife and credited the flights to her BA account, but BA later ruled the flights "ineligible" for miles/points. This was an L class discount fare.

I don't know what other airlines besides BA make this distinction, but beware!
