Swapping points between programmes
 

I am looking for some help. I am wanting to look into swapping miles between various FF accounts / hotel programmes and wonder if there is a site / guide that will help. I visited points.com but they only had the Priority club that I was a member of as I'm UK based. Any tips on sites either like this or that just give you the lowdown on how best to convert miles / points across programmes? I tried searching threads but couldn't find the answer.

On another note when you register for points.com do they actually alter or affect the programmes that you register with them? They required entry of my security data when signing up for the Priority club to be 'loaded'

Forget about Points.com. They simply rob you with horrible exchange rate. It's almost impossible not to lose significant miles after the transfer/swap.

People value miles/points very differently in their individual ways. Web Converter will give you some ideas of possble transfer between miles ( http://www.webflyer.com/programs/mileage_converter/).

This is a topic lots of folks asking and doing. I would recommend you to do a search using combonations of terms (mile transfer/exchange/swap/convert...) under the forums of your interest such as MileBuzz!, AA, UA, HHonors, Amex SPG...etc. You shall find quite some threads to answer your questions. Practice makes "search" better, you know. I learned to try different search terms to get the best results from FT because all the possible answers to miles/points are really here already! :)

As for Points.com, same deal. Do your own search at different subforums, so you can judge the good and bad yourself. Don't just take my words for it. ;)

The Mileage Converter mentioned by McMilescollector is certainly the best place to start. It is not 100% accurate, but it generally shows if a program allows transfers (many do not), the path to another program (many times you must transfer to an intermediate program or two), and the approximate loss of value in process (you nearly always end up with less).

There is no harm in joining the free version of Points.com. They do need your security details to access your point balances. You will find that most programs which do allow transfers or purchases of miles or points use Points.com to implement these features.
