How to work for an airline?
I have received a ton of great advice from this forum and would like to request the help of those who currently working/employed by the airlines. I absolutely love traveling and everything associated with it, and have traveled the U.S. extensively.
Now I am at a point where I would like to actually be employed and work for an airline, for the benefits of course, but also for a chance to be an employee again and not self employed (only) and for the opportunity of working with the public (something I do on a daily basis being self-employed). I have great phone skills, customer service and public relations experience. Can anyone recommend the best way of pursuing such? I am thinking more along the lines of reservationist, gate agent, etc. I have just relocated and currently reside3 minutes from Pittsburgh International Airport and I have the time and energy to focus on such an endeavor but I am not sure where to begin the process or how to pursue such a position. My favorite airlines (and the ones that I normally fly) are American, US Airways, America West, North West, Southwest (in no particular order). All advice is very much appreciated. Thank you! |
websites
Perhaps you have already done so, but if not, take a look at each airlines' website for info on openings, how to apply, etc.
Best wishes for success... |
best of luck, sorry cant offer any input.
Id try a different forum? Milesbuzz? |
Try www.airlinecrew.net They have threads for each of the airlines, which in turn have sticky threads on just that topic. Good luck!

Some second hand knowledge about airlines....
From what I have heard, many if not most airlines are not hiring full-time employees anymore unless you have a certain skill set(aka Business and or accounting). Plus many of the gate agents jobs have been taken over by 3rd party companies that pay VERY little. Northwest gate agents and ramp workers in Cleveland are NOT actually Northwest employees, but 8 buck an hour workers who I assume get zero travel benefits, just like the wheelchair attendants.
I hate to be all doom and gloom but its the reality of the airline industry... |
I have zero knowledge about working based in your location, but I know that in SEA and LAX, Alaska Airlines is almost ALWAYS hiring gate agents, customer service agents, and reservations agents.

Some good advice above.
As this has nothing to do with the latest frequent flyer program buzz, I'm going to close it here. Regards, Flipside |
