buying books

any deals for FF miles for book purchases on amazon or somewhere else?

Randy Petersen May 15, 2002 12:40 pm

Barnes & Noble is tied in with Northwest WorldPerks to earn miles and they are also tied in with the new ClickRewards program. The deal is one mile per dollar spent and they also are part of several other programs. There's also MilesMall.com which is tied in with America West FlightFund and the Alaska Mileage Plan (and soon I hear with Delta SkyMiles) and they partner with Amazon for 1 mile per 3 dollars spent. I'm sure other FlyerTalk members have additional ideas, hope this helps.

MyPoints sends me emails for 2 mypoints per dollar spent at BN plus free shipping. Not sure if it is limited to the email.

I think free shipping is the way to go.

You can get 1 pt per $ on USAIRWAYS if you install the Advantex bonus bar. I have made 2 purchases through this portal on Amazon and the points posted within a few weeks.

Despite what everyone now thinks about Goldpoints, they are providing a better rate of return than Mypoints if you are going to buy anything from BN.com. Mypoints will give you 2 mypoints per dollar spent. Each Mypoint is equal to either .44 AS mile, 1 HH point or .67 Marriot point - so, at 2 mypoints per dollar, you receive .88 AS miles, 2 HH points or 1.34 Marriot points.

Via Goldpoints, you will get 2.5 miles per dollar at the 10:1 ratio and 3.125 miles per dollar at the 8:1 ratio. Convert those airline miles to HH if that is your thing and you will get a minimum of 5 HH points per dollar (by funneling the goldpoints through one of the airlines that transfers to HH at 1:2).

From nwa.com:

Read a book on the vacation that you earned with miles

Read a book and earn miles, too! Now you can earn 2 miles for every dollar you spend at Barnes and Noble through the WorldPerks Mall. Plus, Get FREE SHIPPING with any purchase of 2 items or more at Barnes & Noble.com

Buy a book for yourself. Or, when it comes to gift giving, you can always give a good book! You can't go wrong with Barnes and Noble.

MileMall.com may be offering 1 mile for every 3 dollars spent at Amazon.com, but if experience is any guide, you will likely NEVER see the miles. For anyone contemplating purchases thru MilesMall.com, I suggest you search the SPAM postings before buying. Apparently, I am not alone in having problems with MilesMall.

I don't know about MilesMall, but I think some of us had some not so good experiences with ClickRewards and GoldPoints.

MyPoints is not perfect, but so far they are the ones that I have seen to be the most stable.

I've not used them, but www.shop4.com offers AA miles and a sign up bonus. There is a yearly fee, but 1st 3 months are free.

My own experience has been that Gold Points will eventually post what you've earned if you are persistent with a capital P. I would recommend them since they deliver, despite the lengthy 'collection' process.

I would advise avoiding any vendor who so much as advertises with FreeAirMiles, however. That company is totally fraudulent and a complete waste of time.

I got sucked into shop4.com by a nwa promotion. It took months to get my merchandise. I never found anything again worth buying as their prices were always high. They do not honor their money back guarantee on the membership fee. They do not honor cancelation notices and continue to try to charge membership fees. They are entirely non-responsive.
