Advice sought on WebMiles redemption
 
So I've got 3 days to do something. The website says I can use my miles to buy a ticket on Southwest or JetBlue or for an itinerary on Orbitz.

Problem: I have no trips planned just now.

General question: Is there a way to bank my miles for later use?

Specific question: I am wondering if I can/should buy a completely changeable ticket for a distant date? But 'completely changeable' usually means higher cost.

Advice will indeed be appreciated by this new user who read about the forum in Parade this morning, perhaps just in time. Thanks.

I don't know about JetBlue, but Southwest never has a change fee, even on the most restricted ticket. So, just book the most expensive Southwest ticket you can get away with, and then use the value of that ticket toward a future trip that you really want to take.

I tried calling WebMiles last week and they no longer have anyone that answers the phone.

I'm planning to buy some airline tickets that are fully refundable for cash, though purchasing Southwest tix is also a good option if you can use them in the next year or so.

Since WebMiles converted to the fixed price redemption rules, you really can't do better than taking the cash. Find a fully refundable ticket on Orbitz that costs more than you have coming (to get all you money out of WebMiles), then turn the tickets in to the airline after you receive the ticket.

Sadly, Jaguar is right. They have a fine phone system that rings for about ten minutes, then puts you on hold for ten minutes, then transfers you to "Stacey" -- whose mailbox is full, and then cuts you off.

Oh, well. It's only 30,000 lost miles.

When we were notified about WebMiles ending I redeemed m points for a fully refundable ticket on Southwest with the intent of changing it. When I called Southwest to change the ticket they told me I couldn't because WebMiles used their AMEX account to purchase the ticket. My credit card wasn't used, even though I paid the $69.00 addition to the fare. I'm planning on going down to LAX and see if they'll make an exception when I explain WebMiles is out of business.

Zions Bank informed me today that Web Miles extended their booking airfares until Friday, May 10. Good Luck! I did get through last night after being on hold for 45 minutes.
