why is the 9-11 thread closed?

No reason stated by the moderator no moved to somewhere else, etc. - I'm curious - why is this closed? Isn't this having to do with airlines?

FWAAA May 7, 2002 4:53 pm

I think it was closed because it really has no relationship with miles.

Actually, if all non-miles topics were eliminated, MilesBuzz would look like the ghost-town that is FT Travel In the News.

There's a line at the top of the thread (black, above the first post) stating that it has been moved to TravelBuzz. You should be able to find it there. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/006964.html

BTW, this is a new feature we've added into the system to make it easier to move threads.

Lisa,

Is it possible to allow clicking on the thread-has-been-moved notification to follow the thread to the new location?

-fwaaa & ldsant, I don't understand your complaints

They are merely keeping things organized. So, move over to the travel section where it is. Why the whingeing(whining)?
Flyertalk is most helpful to me as I am reading and learning on a daily basis, and missing work at the same time.

I was not whining, I was asking. I wanted to know if there is a logical place that certain things are supposed to go to? I did not see any moved to signal as there have been with other threads previously.

Welcome to FT - nice post. . . *sigh*

Sometime in the last month or so, the FT engineering staff modified the UBB software to allow transfers of threads from the Miles Board to the Travel Board. Before that it was a time-consuming, complicated process (with very slow server response) to move something:

Moderator or FT staff person had to copy the thread to be moved to "Clipboard"
Start a new thread, paste the text from the clipboard (any embedded HTML would be lost, BTW)
Copy the new thread address to Clipboard
Return to the original thread, create a new post in the original thread indicating the new URL
Re-access the administrative control menu to lock the original thread
Test the link
This could take in total up to three minutes, depending on the server's mood. Under the new system, there is an administrative tool that does this seemlessly, and it retains all of the original poster's code. As a moderator, this makes my life significantly easier.

I attempt to note when I move something what new board the posting can be found in (in addition to code which is automatically posted at the top of the closed page). A specific URL link is not available for inclusion.

Thank you for the explanation. Previously the thread was pink in color and I didn't notice a link above the lock indicating that this had been moved. So, my understanding is that these types of topics go to TravelBuzz and not to MilesBuzz. Thanks again for your assistance!

I find it amazing how many non-miles related posts continue to crop up here. Maybe it's just not clear that the Miles Buzz forum is only for posts relating to frequent flyer programs.

Maybe because MilesBuzz is the first forum people see when they come to FT... and since there is such a huge variation in the topics there, it seems like anything goes! I think it has been suggested by many wiser that me to have the airline specific forums listed first, followed by the general forums, hoping new posters might actually read the forum descriptions before they post???

Whooops, this has trickled over to a Suggestion. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
