What credit is received for Multiple seats on same flight?

I know it is possible to book multiple seats on the same flight (for extra cargo on the plane or extra room or whatever..)

If you book 2 seats both with your name and frequent flyer number, what type of credit do you get? Just the normal EQM/EQS or does the flight post twice? or?

I always thought B.I.S. stood for
Butt in the Seat
not
Butt in the Seats
YMMV:D

".. so even if.." - Correct.

OTOH, in these threads, you'll find stories about musicians & such who travel with items that get their own seats, and have separate FF#s, and earn miles and status.
And provide award tickets for their owners. :D

I don't imagine "Mr. Left Cheek" and "Mr. Right Cheek" quite qualifies, tho.
Happy Reading.

The FMINYC knows a lot about this because I often buy more than one ticket as a courtesy to others on flights I know are packed and I have little chance of getting an upgrade.

On CO, you will not get credit for both seats. However, if you have one tix under CO FF# and one under NWA FF#, you will more often than not get credit from each. YMMV

FMINYC ~ that suggestion, sir, is farking GENIUS !!! ^

You're not only a considerate flyer, you're smart! What a great idea!

Last year german newspaper "Die Welt" wrote that in those cases Lufthansa credits the passenger with the appropriate amount of miles of the purchased second ticket.

Charter Carrier LTU credits 50% of miles as extra bonus (no status) for the second seat !

No clue about the US carriers...

Sometimes I buy two seats on CO from EWR-PEK/HKG..As stated I never received the miles for the "other" seat..I recently set up a new OP account with my name, with EXTRA SEAT after it..

I haven't used it yet, does anyone think I will be able to get credit for the extra seat?

Thanks

mrblueeyes Dec 22, 2006 1:17 pm

Has anyone contacted the airlines to see if they would give you credit for the 2nd seat? Seems to me that if you book 2 tickets they should give you mileage for both tickets. I know...I know...it seems logical and 99% of the time logic does not apply. :)

RustingInSeattle Dec 23, 2006 1:13 am

Perhaps different FF#s?

I would think there should be a way to get credit for both seats. Otherwise, suppose Billy Bob and his son Billy Bob Jr. flew on a flight together. They both have identical names, perhaps even identical addresses, but each should get credit.

good point there...never really thought about billy bob and billy bob jr in this way before...hmm....so mr. right cheek and mr. left cheek might actually work.

Awhile ago when I had a special brace on my knee, I had to make sure that I had an empty seat next to me so I had purchased two tickets.
United gave me only miles for the dupleganger, no bonus miles, no extra segments.

dmitri Dec 26, 2006 4:05 pm

There was a discussion some time ago on Delta board. Per Delta policy one gets the miles for both seats, but not automatically, and it's not clear whether EQMs are also received.

sziv50 Dec 27, 2006 9:41 am

If you could get EQM's for both seats, people doing Mileage Runs would be thrilled.

It would make sense to get the miles for a second seat, but not have them count as elite qualifying miles. (Unless it's the [rare?] case of Billy Bob and Billy Bob Jr.)

Exactly. One could buy three seats to Asia and get AA EXP in one trip.

hmmm, maybe put that BEFORE your last name so it looks like a dif last name in the computer without referencing yours... In other words, you are Jim Smith but if you are Jim Extra-Smith, like a hyphenated last name, then the computer will see 2 dif people and the agents would not see any red flags. You could always argue it was a mix up or a middle name if anyone called you on it, but it could work.

Anyway, I am wondering about this stuff too... Some people take wedding dresses ON a plane and buy a seat for them. Do they get more miles?

****
And then there's this:

We flew with our baby on an international flight and we came to learn that children under 2, while considered 'free' in the US on domestic flights if on a lap or in the plane's sometimes supplied bassonets, when you fly internationally, you must pay 10% of a FULL FARE ticket!!

My wife, who was using 50k miles to fly NWA BOS to AMS with our baby to see family just had to pay her taxes. BUT we had to pay 10% of what the full fare ticket would have been, not what her ticket would have cost, which, had she not used miles, would have been about $500 RT. But the full fare ticket was $2,000+ so our baby had a seat that cost us $200+ taxes! Big bummer!

I asked NWA if they should give her 10% of the 8,000+ miles earned on her flight!

they said no.

Dude yer a freakin genius! I love any double dip tip I can get, and I like your idea for setting up a considerate flight + more upgrade possibilities to boot! Cheers! ;)

workandski Dec 29, 2006 6:00 pm

Hmm. There's certainly a good argument that someone who pays for two seats should get double frequent flyer miles. After all, if you need two seats when you pay for the flight, won't you need two seats when you redeem your miles for an award?

I think this is a good case for an enterprising lawyer.

How do you handle actually boarding the plane? do you give the gate agent both boarding passes?

--

JerseyJoe Jan 2, 2007 11:20 am

When I did this with United, yes, I gave both boarding passes to be read at the gate reader. What is more important, however is to tell one of the FA's on boarding -- otherwise their head count will be "off" and to leave them to figure out what the problem is by themselves -- well, you know what I mean.
